I had surgery in Mexico as well, with Dr. Rumbaut. I have no regrets about his technique, the hospital or my care. Follow up depends on what surgery you choose to have. The band requires a lot more follow up. I had RNY, and the follow up is minimal. My PCP already does labwork on me for diabetes every 6 months, so I told him, what's the big deal if you add on a few more labs? If I need a nutritionist, he can refer me to one. If I have a real problem, that requires a surgeon and reoperation, there are WLS docs locally that can fix me. My insurance will not cover it, but they will fix me and send me the bill. In an absolute WLS catastrophe, I will receive the appropriate care, my local hospital receives federal dollars and cannot legally refuse to care for me based on my financial status. Private hospitals can refuse though. Good luck! Bonnie
