I've posted this on the m...
I've posted this on the main message board too, just incase some people don't visit both boards. I've been decline by my insurance and don't feel very optimisitic about the appeals process from what I'm hearing. I just meet the BMI requirment and I have no major comoribities that they feel couldn't be taken care of with a long time supervised diet. So besides feeling totally bummed about this, I'm determined that I want to do this. I'm considering Mexico since there seems to be a lot people that have been very happy with their surgeons there and it's more affordable. Their abilities isn't what concerns me as far as the procedure goes, but more of what do people do afterwards when you get home? I've already asked two of the doctors in my area if they will allow a patient for follow up care if they didn't perform the surgeries and I got a polite but lengthy reason why they say no. So what do you guys think? Could bloodwork and things like that just be handled by a primary care physician or do you really depend on your surgeon afterwards for something that couldn't be handled over the phone? I don't want anyone to think that I'm willing to sacrifice my health due to financial reasons, but I really don't think I could do this otherwise. Just feeling a bit anxious here and need some advice. Thanks!
Hi Melissa, I went to Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada. I had a great experience and wouldn't trade any part of it. I discussed with my PCP before I went and gave her all the information on the surgery and the doctor as well as patient's one/two year comments. She was well pleased with the results. I would not hesitate to go back there again to get anything done. Good luck in whatever you decide, Cathy Fowler
Vicki,
Dr. Joya is who I have been leaning towards. Have you talked mostly with his office through email? That's how I have. I'm trying to see if I can get the rest of my financing together and I want to do the beginning of December or very end of November which Gerald at Dr. Joya's office said would be possible. I'll keep you posted and who knows, maybe we'll be there at the same time!
Melissa
Hi sweety! I went to Dr. Joya back on August 8th for my lap rny. I've lost 61 pounds!!
Talk to your primary care doc... surgeons generally won't touch you for 90 days after your surgery. I had some complications both in Mexico and here at home... I swear I should have stayed in Mexico where Dr. Joya could have cared for me! The care he gave me was 200% better than the care I got here.
Don't let anyone freak you out about going to Mexico either.. the hospital was much cleaner than any I've ever seen. The staff was attentive and the doctors knowledable.
Keep us informed of what you decide hon.
*hugs*

Hi Melissa!
I am a patient of Dr. Aguirre's. My PCP does my bloodwork but I also have found a bariatric surgeon that does my followup. Just keep calling the doctors in your area until you find one that says yes. Dr. Warnock is just as excited about my results as he is about his other patients. There is a link to Dr. Aguirre's website on my website. You can go there by going to (www) cherimoran.com and then click on the Helpful Links page. If you want to see my prgress, there is also a page that shows pictures from before surgery to less than goal. I wish you the best, as you research your options.

HI MELISSA
I ALSO HAD SURGERY IN MEXICO BY DR. AGUIRRE. I HAVE HAD ZERO COMMPLICATIONS. I HAVE MY BLOODWORK DONE EVERY TWO MONTHS BY MY PCP. SHE HAS BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE OF ME. I WAS GIVEN A DETAILED LETTER FROM DR. AGUIRRE EXPLAINING WHAT HE HAD DONE TO ME IF IN THE EVENT I WOULD NEED TO SEE ANOTHER SURGEON UP HERE. BUT SO FAR SO GOOD.
YOU CAN FIND QUITE A BIT OF HELPFUL INFORMATION ABOUT DR AGUIRRE BY GOING TO CHERI MORANS WEB MENTIONED EARLIER, AND BY GOING TO KATSJOURNEY.COM.
I WISH YOU THE BEST.

PS. MY PROFILE IS NOT UPDATED. I HAVE LOST 85 POUNDS IN 21 WEEKS.
Hey Melissa,
I too went to Dr. Aguirre in Mexico and have never regretted one single moment or dollar! It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I go to my PCP for bloodwork, but as soon as my new insurance goes into effect, I will see if Dr. Warnock is covered. He wasnt' covered by my husnbands insurance and I just started a new job. Hopefully he will be. I have had zero complications and don't expect any, but I had rather be prepared in any case. My PCP is very supportive as well. I have lost 101 pounds now. It will be 8 months on Friday. I couldn't be happier! Good luck in your journey!
