This has been floating around in my mind so I wanted to say it and get your thoughts. I want to go south so I don't have to jump through all of the hoops and red tape required here in the US. And I don't want to wait for several months or however long it takes to go one more round with conventional weight loss programs. I am changing my eating habits and have started a fitness program. I am committed to these. I want good health. I am 55, 37 bmi, and have co-morbiditiesof my own and serious family heart disease. I want to have lapband surgery and the more I read and ask questions I feel this is the best option for me. I am looking at the band as a tool, not the "cure" for my weight loss. The big issue is followup and fill ups or any complicatons post surgery. What have you done about those issues?

Hi Dawn, I know how you feel about having a follow-up Doctor for fills. For myself they're aren't any bariatric doctors in New Mexico. I flew to PV Mexico and had lapband surgery done by Dr. Joya. 8,000.00 My fills follow-up Doctor is in El Paso, Texas. I didn't let any on this get in my way. I have to travel. I'll be paying a little over 100.00 per roundtrip fight plus fills. I had my post-op doctor before my surgeon due to being turned down by my insurance company twice and bit the bullet and became a self-pay patient because I didn't want to jump through anymore hoops. Some one back in august or july I think??? posted a website address with follow-up doctors , you can click on your state for the list. They have to have a FOLL after their degree...Dr. So & So MD FOLL. Call them and see what they have to say. Good luck to you and your journey!! Sadie Louise

I'm 52 and got my lapband in Mexico too. Before going there I called around and got set up with a doctor in my area for fills and after care. It took quite a bit of looking to find someone who would treat Mexico patients, but it was well worth it. You'll need someone to monitor your protein and vitamin intake and help you with questions as you lose weight. You might start with your state site on the OH website, and also search the internet. Good luck!
