I think I am needing to start drinking protein shakes. The doc that did my rny in July told me not to do the shakes unless I got to a point that I am losing too much weight, BUT I think I am needing the protein badly. I am bruising really easily. I take my vitamins and vitamin b12 and iron each day, but for some reason I am bruising real bad just from like scratching mosquito bites. I was hoping to find out what the best tasting one is that doesn't have much if any sugar or carbs. Thanks for the help. Chrissy from Kansas

Bruising easily is a sign of a vitamin deficiency... Here's a few bits of info gathered off the web: Nutritional deficiencies might include vitamins C, K, B12, or folic acid... Vitamin K (fat-soluble) * Sources: Green vegetables * Uses: Used by the liver for the formation of prothrombin * Deficiency leads to: Bleeding due to delayed clotting times caused by lack of clotting factors. Patients may show signs of bruising easily and have nosebleeds. Folic Acid Eating raw or lightly cooked vegetables every day will help maintain normal folic acid levels, as will taking a folic acid supplement containing at least 400 mcg of this vitamin. Increasing consumption of foods high in folate is helpful. Eating a mixture of yogurt (8 oz) and turmeric (1 tsp) also may helpful.... A physician should be contacted if the tongue becomes slick or smooth or the patient: * Bruises or tires easily * Feels ill for more than five days * Feels weak or out of breath * Looks pale or jaundiced. http://www.tipsofallsorts.com/vitamins.html http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C458613.html http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/vitamins.htm http://alternative-medicine-and-health.com/conditions/bruising.htm

I REALLY LIKE NECTAR BRAND PROTIEN DRINKS. THEY MIX REALLY WELL IN COLD WATER. AND ITS LIKE DRINKING JUICE. FOR A SPECIAL TREAT ON OCCASION I WILL MIX IT IN THE BLENDER WITH ICE , VANILLA FLAVORED SOY SLENDER, AND A VARIETY OF FRUIT SUCH AS BANANAS, NECTARINES AND STRAWBERRIES. NECTAR HAS MANY DIFFERANT FRUIT FLAVORED PROTIEN DRINKS. MY FAVORITE TWO ARE FUZZY NAVAL AND LEMON TEA. THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE WHERE I LIVE SO I HAVE TO ORDER MINE FROM VITALADY.COM. BUT THEY ARE REALLY GOOD. NOW, ITS IMPORTANT THAT YOU GET ENOUGH PROTIEN EACH DAY. ME SAYING THIS IS LIKE THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK. I STRUGGLE TO GET ENOUGH IN MYSELF. BUT PROTIEN IS IMPORTANT FOR MUCSLE CELL GROWTH. AND FOR OUR HAIR AND NAILS. BECAUSE WE ARE MALNURISHED WE NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON PROTIENS FIRST. I DONT KNOW WHEN YOU HAD SURGERY BUT IF YOU ARNT GETTING ENOUGH PROTIEN IN YOU MAY NOTICE YOUR HAIR FALLING OUT SOON. SO I HOPE YOU ARE ABLE TO FIND A PROTIEN DRINK YOU LIKE. I ALSO DRINK A LOW CARB YOGURT SMOOTHIE FOR MY MORNING SNACK. THE ONE I DRINK HAS 9 GRAMS OF PROTIEN. WISH YOU WELL CINDY

Pat had good points about the vitamins. As for protein drinks, I prefer the Protidiet gelatin based protein drinks. They go down really easily. I also like the Unjury protein which is quite good tasting. For ease of use, the Carb Countdown Chocolate milk is high in protein and quite yummy. A lot of good ones out there now! Dina
