Has anyone had a Mexico Lap Band done??

It is pretty much a done deal that my Insurance company will not pay for me to have any kind of weight loss operation, So I am looking into Self pay... BUT to have a lap band operation here in Nebraska it will be about $18,000.oo and I read that you can get it done in Mexico for a lot less. So can I ask for some help and see if you can tell what happend with you and your cost?? Please. Thank you LaDonna

I haven't had surgery yet with Dr Ortiz in Tijuana Mexico, but his cost is half the cost of Nebraska. $9500... includes pickup and return to San Diego Airport... 2 nights in a hotel, 1 night at the hospital, a gift pack after surgery, all preops, the surgery and hospital costs. And he is taught many of the USA doctors how to do the procedure...

I just wanted to say HI to a fellow Nebraskan!!! I too went to Mexico for my WLS. I had the RNY with Dr. A and saved at least 19000$ as to what I would have paid in Lincoln. I also had a much more experienced Dr. It was the best decision I have ever made. I would do it again in a heart beat!!!!! Good luck to you on your journey!! A

I didn't get banded by Dr. Rumbaut, but I have heard he is an excellent surgeon. He is in Monterrey. I was there July 15th for gastric bypass and I met about 8 patients of his and not one complaint. I met him and much of his staff also and they are all wonderful. I think his charge is 10,600.00 and that includes rides to and from airport, and the hotel, which is a Hampton Inn and I had the best service ever at this hotel. They have a shuttle that will get you to and from your doc appts. and the hospital. It is a free shuttle except for tips. The shuttle will also take you to shopping malls and other places within a certain amount of miles. Good luck with your search.

I had my lap band in Mexico. Dr. Rumbaut was my surgeon. I know that everyone loves their surgeon so of course I think Dr. Rumbaut was the best. I think the fact that resterilized equipment can be used in Mexico, but they do not use it at the hospital Dr. Rumbaut works out of and the fact that he has soooo much experience with Lap Bands is what sold me on using him as my surgeon. I am so glad I did. The whole experience was really good. E-mail me if you need any additional info on Dr. Rumbaut and I'll help any way I can.

Hi LaDonna, I just had a lap band done on Monday. Dr. Armando Joya in beautiful Puerto Vallarta was my doctor. He is wonderful, his staff is great and they all speak fluent English. The Cornerstone hospital was small but immaculate and state of the art. I financed my surgery. All medical costs, one night stay in a 5 star hotel and roundtrip airfare for me and my husband was $8,600.00. Dr. Joya's medical assistant picked us up at the airport, took us to the hospital, I had my pre-surgery tests then surgery Monday afternoon. I spent one night in the hospital and the next afternoon we were driven to the NH Krystal Hotel (on the beach) where we stayed one night. The next day we were picked up at the hotel and driven to the airport. It couldn't have been easier. I highly recommend Dr. Joya, his staff and the Cornerstone hospital for lap band surgery. I had lapband surgery with Dr Rumbaut in Oct 2004............best decision I ever made. He was fantastic and the hospital was excellent. Even if insurance would have paid for it here in the states I would rather go to him and pay out of pocket......besides, he has had the surgery himself and has lost around 100 pds. The hospital was the nicest one I have ever seen and that is saying a lot since I work in hospitals here in the States...........and yes, it was cleaner and nicer than any I have worked in. I consider him the best and I researched for over a year before finally making my choice. Dont know about cost and what is covered.

Hi LaDonna, I just booked my flight to go to Dr.Rumbaut for the lap band procedure on Sept. 15th! He has lowered his price, don't know for how long, to $8500.00 from 10,600. I live in Ks. and am self pay. After my research, this is the decision that I have made. He works out of the 2nd largest hospital in Mexico, has extensive lap experience, has done close to 3,000 procedures. I chose this procedure because of my eating habits. LaDonna, I had my lap band in Mexacali with Dr. Aceves. He is the most caring and compassionate Dr. I have ever had. His cost is $8200.00. Good Luck Carla
