IMP tip from an insurance agent

Hi Everyone! I am getting my lapband surgery in Tijuana by Dr. Ortiz August 25th. If I had done this in the states, the doctor would have reported my case to the MIB (Medical Information Bureau). In fact, anytime you give your doctor your social security number (on new patient application), they will forward all your test results...EVERYTHING..to the MIB which can dramatically affect your ability to get life insurance and health insurance. In the future, your health insurance company will most likely exclude any complications from your WLS because it is a "pre-existing condition". I am seeing insurance companies exclude ACNE on new clients because it is a Pre-existing condition. By going to Mexico and not giving my social security information, my WLS will be kept out of the MIB. If I chose to go to an American Surgeon for fills, they would take my s.s and report it to the MIB which will come back to bite me. So I will continue going to Mexico for my fills. Therefore, the summary of this post, is keep it all in Mexico so you won't be hit with exclusions in the future on your health insurance or denied life insurance. For example, if you have health insurance at work, as long as you go from job to job with group benefits (there is no individual underwriting on insurance and NO exclusions) and never have to apply for health insurance on your own, you'll be fine. Try not to confess to your American doctor what you did because he/she WILL update your file and report it to the MIB. What happens in Mexico...keep it in Mexico!
