Hairloss Explained Further

I was asking my doc about hairloss today, and he explained it to me a little better than I've had it explained here. Ok, your hair grows in periods. Three month periods to be exact. Temporary hairloss can be caused by many things, but the two biggest things that cause it, are being extremely sick, or in the cases here, having an extreme shock to your system. WLS. This is why hairloss happens around three months post op. As for all the hairloss remedies, there really isn't anything you can do but wait for your hairgrowth patterns to run their course. You can take the products recommended by people here, but in general, there's really nothing that's going to stop it or slow it down. It's inevitable. So, -you'll have weightloss surgery -three months later you'll start to loose hair -three months after that new hair growth will start -then you just have to wait for it to slowly grow out! Cheers! Thanks for the info....I had heard the products really do not help...they just help us cope! It's nice to hear it from a doctor. I will not waste my money!

That is so good to know! I have enough to try to keep up with without trying to remember to take one more hair pill! And I can't afford to spend money that I don't need to! Thanks so much, Lorraine! Genie

My hair wasn't the fullest ever before I started taking birth control and progesterone for my menstruation, but now it's thinning like crazy due to the drugs. I'm loosing and thinning before I've even had my surgery! I'm not looking forward to that three month post op point! I've found that keeping your hair long helps. I hear allot of people say they cut their hair when they start to loose it. If you keep it long, you can put it up to cover any thin spots. I tend to loose right on the top back part of my head, so wearing my hair swept up and held in place back there helps cover the thinner parts. I'm blessed to have naturally curly hair, so I can make it look more volumous and thicker than it really is, so maybe a perm will help the people that have strait hair. But I have to recommend wearing your hair down when at home to minimize the stress that hair holders can put on the hair roots. I only wear mine up when I go out. And never wear it up when you're sleeping. Another thing that I do that works is wear my hair up high on the back of my head, and wrap a scarf around the crown of my head, like flappers from the 20's did. I'm alway****ting antique shops and garage sales to find new scarves. I also found a really great website that sells scarves for cancer and chemo patients. They have some really beautiful patterns to choose from. (www.) headcovers.com Cheers! Lorraine
