Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico - Looking for past patient experiences
I used Dr Zorilla and Dr. Zapata in Monterrey and had a good experience. I am not sure whether they are still doing the surgery. From what I hear, I believe Dr. Rumbaut speaks better english than my doctors, which would be a plus. Still I had a great experience, Dr Zapata did speak decent english, and most of all, I am so happy I decided to have the surgery. July 4, 2003 lap RNY 217/140 happy happy that I did it
PS re Dr Rumbaut - After my surgery, I had a driver who took me around sight seeing. This guy knew Dr Rumbaut and says that he had the surgery himself, and he had nothing but praise fro Dr. Rumbaut and said that he had driven many of his patients and that some of them had come back to Monterrey on a vacation and he had good reports about their weight loss. Also, I have a diary of my whole experience, and I think it would be interesting to anyone who wants to go to Mexico for WLS. I went alone, and my diary also talks about that. E mail me at [email protected] if you would like to see the diary. - Jody
Well Carrie, looks like a big 'ol can of worms was opened! Oh well, keep your head in the game and decide what's best for you! For me, this whole Mexico thing is wicked scary and I am looking for all the information I can get, I'm sure you are too.
One thing I am glad of about Dr. Rumbaut is his affiliation with the American Bariatric Society. He is a member in good standing. The ABS isn't just something you buy a membership card for, they have specific criteria the candidate must meet and then they are accepted in by other surgeons, and they just don't let anyone in! I'm not sure of the other surgeons qualifications, but I am impressed by that one in particular.
Anyway. I'm still deciding between Rumbaut or Zorrilla, either way, I'm going to Monterrey!
Best of luck!

Hi GerrAnn,
My time of surgery is fairly close; I am scheduled for the 31st. When I talked to the office manager on Friday, she said the doctor had a cancellation for the 31st - I grabbed it. As far as preparing for the surgery, I have a few friends and relatives who have already had the surgery that are very eager to give me advice and support right now. Of course now, I have an entire board of experienced people to turn to as well with questions.
For now, I am making plans on what to do while in Mexico for nine days by myself. I am very excited by this, as I love traveling. I only hope I'll be able to tour around a little the last day or two I'm there. If not, at least the hotel I'll be staying at is next to a mall.
Thanks for the support!
Carrie
Hi Carrie! I will be in Monterrey June 1st, having surgery on June 3rd! Maybe we'll run into each other since I have decided on Dr. Rumbaut as well. My husband is coming with me so if you need anything, you'll have to call us! We are going to stay at the Hampton Inn that his office recommends. Best of luck!!!
