Regulation in Mexico-
I'm considering a lap band in Mexico after giving up on my insurance company. I just found this board, but haven't seen anything on physician regulation in Mexico.
I'm wondering if anyone knows *****gulates/oversees the surgeons in Mexico. For example, in the U.S., you can contact the State Board of Medical Examiners to find out if the physician has any current complaints, lawsuits, or if the board is diciplining the physician for drug use, inappropriate conduct, etc.
Also, in the US I am told you can get statistics such as how may surgeries the surgeon have done-how many deaths. Is this information available for the surgeons in Mexico?
Does anyone know where I might find this kind of info on physicians in Mexico? I want to make the most informed decision I can. Any help would be appreciated.
You can click on Bariatric Surgeons in Mexico on the right hand side of your screen. It will list the doctors and you can click on them indiviually to see the stats of that particular doctor. My husband had lap rny in Monterrey, Mexico two weeks ago. The care was superb! We have never rec. that type of treatment in the states and the facilites were state of the art. The doctors were very professional and had a wonderful bedside manner. He used Dr. Roberto Rumbaut. If you have any particular questions about him we would be happy to answer. There are also several others that many people speak highly of. Good Luck! Kim
Amy,
There is no such thing in Mexico. There is not a legal site like what you are looking for. You can find out if the doctor is a member of certain organizations or associations or if he graduated from medical school but that is about it.
You have to rely on other patients experiences and go with your gut instinct.
I had lap band surgery in Mexico last year, in Mexicali with Dr. Aceves. I have read good things about other docotrs but I can only talk about my own experience. It was great! I can truly recommend him, his staff and the hospital to anyone considering Mexico. He is an excellent surgeon , the hospital is nice and clean, the staff is attentive and competant and his coordinator is great and very helpful.
I can suggest you ask around usually when things are bad you hear about it, people are eager to warn others about bad experiences which is good that is why we are all here , to learn from each other's experience . If you look up past post here you will read some negative experiences with some doctors in Mexico and some great reviews as well. Like everywhere there are good and there are bad.
If you have just started your search I can also recommend you don't choose your doctor by price alone. Of course money is an issue but your safety is worth more. Look up the surgeon and talk to his patients, they know 1st hand!
good luck,
Sandy
