Need help w/ Mexican Doc...
Hey all. I've never posted here before (other than replies to someone else's post), so please bear with me. I have my Lap Band surgery set up with Dr. Kuri on Nov. 8th in Tijuana, MX. I was all set and really getting up psyched for it when I received a phone call this afternoon from a rep of another excellent Mexican Doc, whom I had considered, but decided against. I guess she has been trying to get a hold of me, through a wrong number (?), and when I told her I had chosen to use Dr. Kuri for my Lap Band surgery, she flipped out. She said that Dr. Kuri operates in a "poverty strickened" area and that there is no ICU, in case things go wrong. Now I'm getting scared!!! I've tried to post on Mexicanbandsters on Yahoo, but the board is down. I will cross - post this on the "south of the boarder" board on this site, but I just wanted to see if anyone out there has any advice, info, or support they can offer me. I have a VERY minor heart murmur (never had a problem during operations), but this gal really has me feeling unhinged right now. Thanks in advance.

I also do not think this was necessary practice by the other doctors rep, how tacky. I am sure that Dr. Kuri is a wise choice. I also have heard nothing but great things about him. Although I used Dr. Aceves I am certain that all the past patients of Dr. Kuri are happy, atleast they keep on posting so. I would address your concern directly to Dr. Kuri since he would probably be able to either ease your concerns or recommend other actions, do tell him your fears and let him answer them. Also ask his patients what their overall feelings were regarding the surroundings, this way there will be less of a cultural shock. I remeber the fear I had in having surgery done in a country were I would not drink the water. I am so glad I went aheaf with it, no regrets what so ever. Good luck with your decision.

Danielle, please take this rep's statements in context. She/He is drumming up business for their own doctor. Though he may be a wonderful doctor, one would have to wonder why such tactics would be employed to gain patients, hmmmm.
I think your choice of Dr. Kuri will be a great one for you.
Good Luck
Danielle,
I have surgery scheduled with Dr. Kuri on 10/29/04. If I were you I would contact Dr. Kuri directly and tell him exactly what the rep told you. He would be the best source to put your mind at ease. It's not right that people play on our fears to steer us their way for financial gain. This whole process is terrifying, then throw in the fact that we are forced to go to a foreign country. It's enough to unhinge anyone. But I really believe that with Dr. Kuri's reputation he will give you honest answers to your questions.
