Hi all, I am curious if anyone knows if US insurance companies will cover complications that might arise from a surgery done in Mexico or any other self pay way. Thanks, Natalie

Hi Natalie, My guess is that it depends on your insurance carrier and how your PCP codes the problem. I understand that a lot of people have their blood work for nutrition paid for by their PCP coding it to rule out malnutrition rather than as a post-surg patient. I haven't had any problems, but my PCP took out my drain and staples and the insurance paid for their part (I still paid my co-pay for an office visit.) I don't know how she coded it. I would ask my PCP if I were you and share with her/him (IF they're supportive about this already) that if there are problems, they need to be coded so that the insurance pays. Charlotte
