Doctors in Mexico
Anne, I have a house in Mazatlan and family that live in Mazatlan and I would have preferred having my surgery there so I didn't have to pay for a hotel, but, after researching for quite some time I decided upon Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada. Gastric bypass is his specialty and although there are many fine doctors in Mazatlan I read all the information and testimonials on this and Dr. Aguirre's message boards and decided to pay for a hotel and go to Dr. Aguirre.
If you want names of surgeons in Mazatlan I can give you the names of a couple excellent ones. I am sure they do WLS but as I said above Dr. Aguirre is a specialist in this and is the best there is!!!
I had surgery with Dr. Aguirre last week in Ensenada, B.C. and the lady who had her surgery the day before me was from Mazatlan. I believe her name was Cherica (sp?) but I do not think she posts here at obesityhelp.com. I did not think to ask her if there were WLS doctors in Mazatlan but since she had her surgery in Ensenada, perhaps that is an indication that there isn't. I'm sorry I can't be of much help.
You can find Dr. Aguirre's contact information on his website at http://www.derivaciongastrica.com/english/ and he does respond to emails.
If you have any other questions, I'm sure any of us on Dr. A's forum would be more than happy to help you.
Good luck!

Anne, I don't think there are any. If you want another option ( to compare or something) Dr.Aceves in Mexicali also does the RNY. I chose the lap band with him but I know he also does the bypass. Their contact information is www.mexicolapband.com

Hello,
Was just curious why you are choosing the R N Y? Have you checked out the Duodenal Switch. It has better track history of weight staying off. Plus your stomach isn't altered by taking out the pyloric valve. Your stomach is cut vertically instead of horizontially and you have better results for the long haul. I had this surgery performed by DR. Ungon in Hermasillo Mexico. Just thought you should check out different options if you are a self pay and you don't have to do what the insurance says. Check it out....

Good luck.
