Has anyone heard of any exercises to avoid hernia from the open RnY incision sight? Can you strengthen those layers of muscles ahead of time and how? Thanks.

Good question, wish I had an answer. Someone will surely have some advice. By the way, I love Wenatchee. I almost took a teaching job at East Wenatchee High School a couple years ago. I still think about it from time to time but you know us coasters, we just can't seem to ever really make the move. I do have a condo at Crescent Bar and I spend a lot of time there in the summer. Well, I had lots to say but not what you asked so I will go and see what others have to say!

Speaking as a person who had a hernia, the answer is no. It would be too little, too late. However, you can make sure you wear your binder for the required period of time and avoid lifting anything over ten pounds for the first six weeks to try to avoid getting one. That said, remember that incisional hernias are common in any type of abdominal surgery and can "just happen" but hopefully you won't get one. I think, (but don't quote me) I am the only patient of Dr. Aguirre's that had one. Congratulations on your upcoming date.
