Weight Loss Nightmare plz HELP

I have found myself in an unbelievable embarassing situation -- plz help! I was one of those people who never would look at the scale when at the doctors to see my weight. Never, ever. I was in denial right up to the point I went to Mexico for my surgery. I figured once I got back and my mindset was on the "losing side" I would just call up my PCP and ask what my weight was at my physical which was two days before I left for surgery and I'd start from there. I had a basic idea (or so I thought!). I got back from Ensenada and began weighing myself once a week for the last three and a half weeks. I made my chart based on what I thought I weighed going in. Today I called my PCP to ask what my weight was at my physical. She tells me a weight that is ten pounds lower than what I had estimated which would mean my total weight loss for almost 4 weeks post-op is a grand total of 10 pounds, not over 20 as I thought. I asked her to read my my last three weights since I had been there in the last three months. She read them to me and they were all screwy. One was 258 lbs, one was 245 lbs, one was 249 lbs. My current weight as of today is 239. She's claiming I was 249 when I was there last. I find it hard to believe I've only lost ten pounds in almost four weeks. My clothes are definitely hanging off me, everyone that hasn't seen me says I lost more weight than a ten pound loss would warrant comment on. The only saving grace I had was my PCP gave me my prescription for Synthroid (Thyroid) which she diagnosed two days before my surgery as my having an underactive thyroid. IS IT POSSIBLE I'VE ONLY LOST 10LBS in almost 4 weeks? My eating is according to plan, I'm pretty active, I'm working, I'm drinking tons of water.

Deborah, I wouldn't worry about the doctor's scale. Your clothes tell the story. They fit a certain way when you left, and we all know 10 lbs isn't enough to make them hang all that much differently. The synthroid should help the weight loss process along! Keep doing what's worked - you'll be fine Dianna

Deborah - I would go back to her and weigh on her scale. It won't cost you anything and then you will know for sure how much you have lost. I do know that I have a couple doctors that I've gone to who have had scales that were way off. I don't know why but the GYN office scale always weighs me way too low. It also measures me an inch shorter than I am. IF her scale is correct, there are a couple of other things I'd look at too, and that is that you are REALLY TALL. (like you didn't know that!) I would take that into consideration on what your goal weight is and what the ratio of weight loss is. You really probably didn't need to lose 100 lbs to be a normal size. With someone your height, I'd guestimate that 170-175 is going to be a nice trim size. If you think of it like that, you only really needed to lose 75 lbs. That will possibly come off half as quick as someone who needs to lose 150 lbs (like me). The fact that your clothing is loose is a better indicator like was already expressed. I think that your scale doesn't jibe up with her scale. It's a common thing to have happen... Dina

I agree with Dina, I would go to the Dr's office and weigh myself using that scale. It is very seldom that two different scales weigh the same. After you weigh at the Dr's office you can weigh on your home scale and figure out the difference. I wish I had weighed myself preop. I am using the weight from Dr Aguirre's scale and like you, I really thought I weighed about 10lbs more. Oh well, in the scheme of things its only a number. The clothes tell the story!!! Hang in there!

Dr. Aguirre's scale is antiquated, isn't it? I stepped on it but it didn't register - not sure why. I would think it would at least go up to 350 but maybe not. I know I was 325 around the time but I may have been a couple pounds higher by then. But certainly not so much that it should have tipped a doctor's scale!!! Dina

Dina, at first I thought maybe Dr Aguirre's scale was kilograms? or something. But now looking back on it I think it didn't go up high enough. He said something about me not weighing 270lbs and I told him I don't know where he got that number (maybe that's what I told him back in August when I was requesting a surgery date). Anyway, I told him I think I weigh closer to 300. When I wrote to Rosella she said I weighed 300, but I am starting to think that was just the figure I gave him and not my actual weight. I probably weighed about 310.

You know, I was thinking the same thing about the kg. I thought I noticed that but I really wasn't paying good attention so I just left it. But I know that when I stepped on the scale, he asked how much I weighed and slid the scale over a little and then stopped. I was thinking it was too lightweight of a scale to register my 325 lbs, but right now I'm wondering if he was thinking in KG and not able to convert it in his head for where to go with it, and since I knew what I was he just went with that. Ahhhh - who knows. All I know is I'm happy now! Dina

Deborah, I agree with the others that the doctor's scale is different than yours. Clothes tell the story--if they are fitting that differently then you are more than 10 lbs. keep up the good work and keep your chin up--you are on the right track. janice

Email Rosella and request your pre-op weight. I did and received an answer in a couple of days. Could YOUR scale be off for any reason? Julie

Thanks to all for the responses. I have emailed Rosella today for the heck of it and besides that I'm throwing it all out the door and going by what's happening now -- you're all right. The clothes tell the difference and I just gotta suck it up. Thanks again!
