Scratching... Scratching... Scratching!
For some reason, I can't get passed this itching. My whole body seems to itch! Sometimes my toes and the back of my legs. And I have NO idea why. I have several types of liquid bath gels and they are the same ones that I use before surgery. I have been trying to evaluate what I am consuming that does not agree with me. Could it be the whey protien? Could it be the liquid vitamins? Is my skin more sensitive? Ummm....
Hmmm - I dunno except to say that your skin might just be getting dry due to the weight loss. Maybe you have mild dehydration going on or something. Try using Vitamin E oil - that stuff is wonderful. I have eczema on my back really bad and I started using it and it has helped tremendously. Maybe consuming Vit E suppliments would help also.
You might also be low in the B complex vitamins - those affect skin. If you aren't taking it sublingually, I would start doing that. I got a sublingual liquid at Walmart.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. In addition to trying to get more vitamins and water intake, I evaluated what I have been taking and what I have NOT been taking and it also dawn on me that it also may be because since surgery (March 16) I have not been able to taking my Prozac in the morning for antidepressant and Tofranil before bed for antianxiety. Could be where my slight insomnia is coming from. I've been taking them for years. They taste nasty crushed and make me want to barf so I just don't take them. Not too worried about Prozac since it has a longer half life in the system. SO far, I've have not had a traumatic crisis erupt while not taking them. I'm wondering if they are available in a liquid.
Are you taking any of the pain medications?? If so, you may be having an allergic reaction. Also, some of the medicines do cause you to have the 'itchies'. Percocet does that. If you aren't 'itchy' all the time, try to pay attention to when you get the itches. Is it after taking the pain meds? After drinking your protein shakes?? If you can find a correlation you might feel better knowing what is causing it, but try to avoid itching. Get some benadryl cream if you are really going crazy from it. Hope you feel better soon!!!

I have to agree with the other ladies, drink lots of water.
Consider any meds you're on and check out this link to match your symptoms against anaphylaxis - dangerous stuff.

Try an elimination diet if nothing else works.
I'm actually more than a little worried about this - after I woke up from my c-section I ITCHED horribly. I don't know what they put in the epidural, but I had to erase the video taken the night of my daughter's birth because I couldn't bear to look at my swollen face - was I rubbing it like I was on a bad acid trip. They gave me benadryl and it got better after two doses and a few hours, but I know that there's a fine line between facial swelling/itching and anaphylactic shock. Though I guess if an epinephrine shot is in the cards I'd rather be at a cardiac hospital getting it!
I hope I can get my OB records before the surgery so that I can tell the anesthesiologist what it was that I reacted to.
Anywho, drinking more water couldn't hurt - even if your itching is just a normal phase of this process for your body.
Hope you find relief soon!

I haven't a clue what's causing the itching, but could definitely be dry skin. As for the itching after anesthesia, when I had my foot surgery, they used an IV to administer it. They warned me that my nose would probably itch after surgery. But as usual with me, it wasn't the nose, it was my chin. I always do things slightly off center.

Hi Marlene! I don't know what caused the itching either, but I itched really badly for awhile after surgery. I think it was around 1 or 2 months. I read somewhere it was a reaction to the pain medication we received during surgery and after, but never really found out what. I crushed benedryl and that did seem to help some. It does pass!
