Taking Medication
I am just over one month out and started taking my pills a couple of days ago. I have had no problem getting them down or keeping them down. I just have to remember to take them AFTER I brush my teeth because I have a very quick gag reflex and if I brush my teeth after, it gags me. (Sounds wierd I know!) I had open RNY with Dr. Aguirre on 2/20/04. Charlotte
I am taking everything: Multi-vitamin, E (gelcap), B-complex, even calcium (you know, the horse pills!). The first day I wasn't sure, so cut everything (except E) in half, but since then I haven't had any problem taking them whole. Oh, BTW - for those of you who take thyroid hormone, before you can take pills, they will just melt in your mouth and don't taste bad. You don't have to crush them. Charlotte
I've been taking my medications in pill form for some time, but only because I can't get them in liquid or sublingual. I think that the pill form doesn't completely absorb or break down in my system, the way it used to. So if I can get sublinqual or liquid, that's what I opt for. Can anyone confirm if my thinking is right on this point or not? Thanks
Karen- your reasoning sounds logical to me, and in fact that is one reason I wondered if I should go for sublingual or chewable. Our new pouches don't have the stomach acids to break it down as easily as our old ones, so I think some of it is bound to get washed away. In talking to another surgeon before Dr. Aguirre, he explained also that there is some malabsorption with meds as well as vitamins.
