Crossing to Tijuana

My agent keeps insuring me that I can cross with just my birth certificate but I keep hearing otherwise. Did anyone recently cross from San deigo without a passport?

you can go from America to Mexico with just your birth certificate. Coming into America from X

MX, I would be afraid they wouldn't let me back in without a passport. They have always checked ours and we have been,6 times. 

I personally would change my surgery date until my passport came,but that is just me. if I was going without a passport,I would be sure to take extra money for hotel rooms and meals while they sorted it all out. It can be a lengthy process. You will like

Hi, you don't need a passport.  Just take your birth certificate and a driver license.  I've been to Tijuana hundreds of times :)
