I had VSG with Dr. Lopez on April 8th this year and I had a wonderful experience! No complications (well, I do have heartburn, but that was expected) and I had a very textbook recovery. My bloodwork is great and I recently met with a plastic surgeon who said my incision site scars look great.

Staff: all were wonderful- better than most I've had in the US. Nurses were attentive and most of them speak enough english to understand you. Very friendly and caring. Dr. Lopez was also very pleasant and checks in on you after the surgery a few times. Very nice man.

Hospital: very modern, clean and organized. Honestly, better than some hospitals I've been to in NJ (wayyyy better than Rahway Hospital in NJ)... I think locals actually go there for certain things too. There is shuttle service to and from the hospital.

Aftercare: well considering the Dr is in Mexico, I haven't had any aftercare... however, I did email Christy from Mexico Bariatric questions and I was always responded to quickly.

Pain control: great- nurse staff as mentioned above was wonderful. The gas pain was reallyyy bad, but walking helps. Everyone was right about the walking- don't stop!

If you think of more questions, don't hesitate to ask :) I had a great experience and would do it over again in a heartbeat.

Hi, I had my surgery done on August 20th in Tijuana, Mexico with Dr. A. Lopez. My surgery went very well. I did have a hernia repair but didn't pay any extra for it because I had actually chosen the option of not having a repair if they found one when I filled out the paperwork. They said they had to do it because it was very big and without it they wouldn't have been able to do the sleeve. I thanked them and didn't pay for it. They were fine with that. I was sore the first day but nothing that I couldn't handle. The nurses were right there with pain meds and I never had to ask for anything. They were super awesome. Many of them spoke English very well and we chatted quite a bit. The hospital was small but clean. The aftercare at the hospital was great. I went back to the hotel after 2 nights in the hospital and still had my drain. They took me back to have it removed a few days later. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. I didn't have much pain and ended up going on two tours just days after surgery. I went shopping and to the beach. It was a lot of fun. I would highly recommend Dr. Lopez and his staff. I am now 5 weeks post-op and have lost a total of 30lbs! I feel great, have energy and smile a lot more. It was so worth it an I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Good luck on your journey!

My sister and I were sleeved with Dr Lopez on February 14th 2014 she has lost 90lbs and I have lost 100 so far - we have had no problems at all - the staff was excellent and Dr Lopez was fantastic - there is always a risk with surgery no matter who the surgeon - We have a girlfriend that had a bypass done here in Canada and although she is doing well she did have a blood clot she had to be hospitalized  for so complications happen anywhere not just in Mexico. We had so many people tell us do not go to Mexico and asked if we were crazy and after a while I told my husband I am not listening to them anymore - I rationalized that these doctors do these operations in their sleep and have more experience than the Canadian surgeons who only do a couple a month if they are allowed that many. While we were there 2 other sisters from our area were also there having it done along with 2 girls from the states and a brother and sister from Texas and we all are doing well and our experience was great - So they did 8 of us that weekend and we all did not have hernia repairs
