This is for the people that had surgery in Mexico. Has anyone had surgery in Mexico and had problems after returning home. Just wondering what do you, who do you go to for help. Do you have to go back to Mexico or see a surgeon here or if it isn't too bad of a problem do you see your PCP.

Your GP takes over from your surgeon in Mexico. It is blood work you need to have done every few months. Your surgeon will tell you what you will need. You don't need to go back to Mexico. I went to Dr. Kelly in Tijuana. He will take your calls after you are at home if you have any questions or concerns.

If you need a specialist when you are home your doctor will have to refer you.

I did fine. My blood work was good. My protein was down a bit for my first blood tests but I increased my protein intake and it was normal after that. No specialists needed.

Good luck! Feel free to message me with any questions.  Linda

I concur with Linda. (I also used dr. Kelly in Tijuana.) I went to my PCP before I had the surgery and told her my plans and asked her to do my follow-up. She was happy to do it and did "baseline" blood work to have something to compare my post-op numbers to. We also set up an appt for me to see her a couple of weeks post-op just to check in and talk about any issues. (Luckily I didn't have any, but she checked my incisions and checked me over anyway.) I do my first round of blood work at 3 months and will meet with her then. (And every 3 months after that for the first year.) I feel like I'm getting great care from someone who is interested in (and knowledgable about) my entire health, not just surgery related issues. I hope you find someone to work as well with you! Good luck! You're also welcome to PM me if you have any questions. - Rynn

Thank you for the replies, I just might go to Mexico for this. My husband wants me to so I can get it done sooner. But if my insurance will cover it I would rather use the money for plastic surgery in Mexico for after I lose the weight. He said I can do it all in Mexico but why spend the extra money if I don't have to. I guess it will all depend on what they say at my first appointment. But thanks again for the information it really helped. And if I have any more questions I will send messages to both of you as long as you don't mind.

I had post op complications from the gallbladder removal portion of my surgery. I have Kaiser here, and my PCP referred me to their bariatric surgeon for testing and aftercare. I am now seeing Kaiser NUT, support groups and on the schedule for routine labs as a gastric bypass patient. Kaiser has been terrific, and all I pay is my copay.
