Can I ask why you are giving the surgeon a fantastic recommendation? When you came away from surgery with a major complication such as a drain infection?

Just wondering?

I'm pre-op, but I will be going to Dr. Alvarez at endobaratrics.  I picked him because he's a certified surgeon of excellence, highly recommended on this site, has trained in France and the US as well as Mexico, speaks fluent English, and he has a you tube channel where I was able to watch him perform actual procedures.  I've heard stories about people going to Mexico and having the facilities be nothing like they looked on-line.  In his case, you see him at the hospital and in the OR, so you know it's not just still photos of someone else's hospital.

The price is $8700, inclusive.  That covers everything but your airfare.  It's more if your aunt is a revision or has a BMI over 52.  His website is www.endobariatrics.com, and you can search for reviews of him here on obesity help using the search feature on the upper right.  Amy in Orlando just had surgery with him a few weeks ago, so you can also look up her posts.

He is in Puerto Vallarta. We paid $6500 - airfare extra - we arranged that ourselves. The hospital and hotel were amazing and everything was as described and promised. His co-ordinator Gerald was great - any questions or concerns addressed in a professional and timely manner.

My advice is to read, read, read and research as much as possible.

Best of luck!

I used Dr. Ortiz. Had no problems. Plus, a stay at the Marriott was included in price.

VSG was approx. $6,500.

I second on Dr. Aceves.  Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish.  Plus I think he's the only one that keeps you right there in the hospital for three days after surgery.  Personally, I felt better being in the hospital rather than a hotel.  $8750.

I am going to Dr Ortiz on Wed., Nov 6. I chose him because he has done 12,000 surgeries and is a Center for Excellence! A title  that not many can claim!!! Wish me luck!
