Brand New, Plenty of Q's Dr. Garcia or Dr. Lopez
Hello All,
I've been over weight pretty much since the onset of puberty and I'm so tired of being fat and the constant struggle to lose weight. I have recently made the decision to get gastric sleeve surgery. I am 35 and my weight fluxes between 215 and 220. I'm 5'5 and my BMI is 36.6. I've went to a WLS surgery seminar but my insurance requires that I do a 6 month supervised weight attempt and I must admit, I do not want to wait that long. I'm a teacher so it would work out better for me to get surgery in the summer.
Right now I am torn between alighterme with Dr. Ortiz and Ready4achange with Dr. Garcia. I have read up on both of them and would like your honest opinions of each doctor and your experiences with each of the coordinators. I would like to have surgery on July 4.......my independance day ;) My husband has been very supportive. I have two small kids , so complications and risks are big concerns of mine as I am sure it would be for anybody.
Thanks so much for you responses in advance and I can't wait to get started with my transformation!!
On a different note...you might want to research airfare before deciding on July 4th. It might save you a bunch of money to use a different date...or it might not. I know when I was looking at airfares yesterday - the airline I was looking at was almost twice the rate right around the 4th. This is assuming you'll have to fly...maybe you live on the border. :)
I am a pre-op - but am planning on using Dr. Kelly. I like that he has practiced in the US, that he has over 8,000 surgeries under his belt, and that he's taught WLS in US and Canada.
No matter which Dr you decide...you might want to check directly with their office (instead of a third party booking company) and see if you can book directly with the surgeon...might save you some money and the policies might be a bit different as well.
Good luck!
Jane
Thanks Jane!
My husband and I already booked our flights! We live off the gulf coast and looked at three different airports and several different dates. They basically all came out around the same price(give or take $50). My husband is a contractor so he only gets paid for days he works. We decided on the forth of July weekend because my husband wouldn't be working anyway. Plus I Like the idea of having surgery on Independence day...independence from my old life and bad eating habits!

I'd book directly with the Dr if you have any chance to do so. Going through a sales person to schedule my surgery just didn't seem right.
I did see the girl from Ready 4 a Change picking someone up. She was young, pretty and had some bags with her to give to the patient.
