I have made the decision

I have made the decision and I am starting the process with Dr. Aceves in Mexico and want to have surgery near the end of Feb.  It is so hard to decide which surgery would be best for me.  I have a lapband now, but have had problems with it in the past.  I moved from NV to AZ and each clinic wants me to pay $500 for the privilege of becoming their patient and then the cost of the fills/unfills are outrageous.  My weight loss with the bad was not what I expected, some due to me eating around the band and some due to problems with the port and being unfilled for 7 mths.  I am done.  I am not a spring chicken anymore but I am still in pretty good health and I want to keep it that way.  Most my aunts on my dad's side of the family were obese, 350+, my mom was obese, 280+.  I remember watching her yo-yo diet my entire childhood.  She started having health problems before she turned 45 and died 5 mths before her 60th birthday.  12-12-12 would have her 82nd birthday and that is when I decided that I had to do something now and not wait for my health to get bad.

I would like to hear from anyone who had surgery with Dr. Aceves and how you are doing now.   Thanks for listening

Congrats on making your decision! That seems to be the hardest part so far . I hear really great things about Dr. Aceves. Do you know which surgery you are interested in revising to? I think there are quite a few of his revisions on the VSG board. Also, on Verticalsleevetalk.com there is the new Mexico/self pay forum which seems to get a good bit of traffic. I have made the decision to go to Dr. Fernando Garcia for VSG at the end of January, but if I was revision I would definitely go to Dr. aceves or Dr. G Alvarez. Try posting a call out on the VSG page to get more information. I think you can safely revise to either VSG or RNY, although it seems lately most are going to VSG. I think it really depends on your lifestyle, and whether you want the malabsorption or not. Either way you go, congrats on taking the next big step to a healthy you! Please feel free to PM me if you need more support on going to Mexico...I am right there with you

I was sleeved by Aceves on 11-23.  I'm a month out and feeling amazing!  My Mexico experience met and exceeded every expectation I had.  Aceves runs a top notch bariatric program and you will be very well taken care of.  The hospital is small but really nice and the staff was wonderfull-- especially Karla.  You'll meet her the first day, and she'll walk you through every step.  Good luck on your journey!  Feel free to pm me with any questions....
