Does everyone go to Mexico because it is cheaper?  Is it worth the risk of going outside your country?
Just curious.

Well here where I live it is over a ten year wait list for the surgery. I could have gone to another province and pay 20000 more then what I did in mexico. I simply could not come up with that kind of money. Lots of successful surgeries in mexico, I had zero complications.

It's also the amount of surgeries performed as well. The drs in our area have just a round ahundred between the four of them .  The price was a factor but so the wait list here in Canada.

I agree with you on this one they are more experienced in mexico then here. They do 60-80 bariatric surgeries here in one year, not sure how many of them are the sleeve but a mexican surgeon does this many sleeves every month or two. I would rather go to experienced surgeons but if I was able to have the surgery done right away here for free I would probably have not worried about the experience.

I went because after years of insurance issues (changed carriers, new carrier wouldn't accept documentation/testing, etc.) it seemed like the best choice... my health was declining rapidly and quality of life was marginal it needed to happen sooner than later.

It was the best choice I ever made.

Best Dr/hospital/nurse experience I have had in any country. I've since been back to Mexico for two rounds of post wls plastics and had equally great experiences.

Best wishes in your research! Research is key... good and bad Dr's & programs in every country.

Yeah not looking forward to plastics, how was your recovery? I can't imagine flying home for six hours in pain, even though I usually sleep most of the flight.

I'm just north of San Diego so no flights just a long car drive. I have a pal who flies to VA from Tijuana takes the latest/red eye flight and requests a wheel chair and has done well.

RNY I stayed 9 days (2 1/2 in hospital, remainder in private residence)
Plastics Round 1 I stayed at a house arranged by the PS for 5 days then returned for check up
Plastics Round 2 I stayed at a hotel in TJ for 3 days then returned for check up

Yes I requested wheelchair for my flight home after the VSG, I didn't need it but just incase I did.

What was your pain level like for the plastics? What surgeon? I see some people talking about a ps in mexico not sure of the spelling but see Dr Seda or something like that lots.

I also couldn't pay the $25.500.00 se;f pay in my town amd why should I? Just because ai am paying myself? pfft.

My surgery was $6000.00 and everything was state of the art nd I was confident in my surgeon. I had no complications then or in the two Years I have been sleeved.

I was self pay, but cost wasn't my biggest concern, experience was. The four bariatric surgeons in my area have done less than 100 combines. Not good enough for me.
