That is kinda hard to answer. it is a big ,dirty country,at least most of the parts I saw. There is a lot of trash and refuge in the streets and everywhere. A lot of the houses are really shacks, but there are also some areas with very nice condos and gated communities.

There are lots of nice professional type business offices. There is an odd sort of interstate highway system that run right along the roadway without being separated like our interstate system is.

there are some "tourist" areas that are very nice. there is a beach where we were in Tijuana that was very dirty and trash filled. There ws a mall that looked just like our malls. There were open air pharmacies where you just drive up and get out and get what you want.

Some of the apparently reputable businnessesd are next door to broken down, falling apart buildings that are also being used as stores, etc.

It is kinda strange sometimes but very interesting.

Hope this helps,lol

i have not been to tijuana yet. in one week or so i will be for surgery with dr. kelly. i have been to matzalan, cozumel, progresso...mexico has somethings which are just like america and some that are not; good areas and bad areas just like any large cities. i love mexico ; be polite and respectful of their culture and you can have a great time. dont wander , lots of thank yous and tipping doesn't hurt. stay with the people who brought you. are you having surgery with dr. kelly. i understand trish his assistant will take you shopping , etc. you are in medical van for transport to and from san diego. you can schedule directly with his office, trish...i am getting excited. my surgery is march 4th.

I did not ever feel scared. We were escorted everywhere we went by one of the drivers and once one of the recovery house attendants went with us too.

We stayed in a condo in a gated community in a better part of the city after leaving the surgery center.

The soldiers with rifles at the border when we were leaving Mexico was kinda different but  they didn't bother us.
