My experience with Dr. Aceves *LONG*
I am almost a week post op and I thought I would share my experience with people who are researching MX surgeons. Its long so beware ;)
I arrived in San Diego on Sat night and spent the night at a hotel. The next morning, Ernesto, the driver picked my mom and myself up at the hotel.
It was a bit over an hour ride to Mexicali, and Ernesto kept us entertained with some Mexican history and stories of his family. :)
We arrived at Almanter Hosp and immediately I was taken in to have my lab work, EKG and Xrays done.
Then we met with Yolanda (she was so sweet), she went over all of the details and paperwork with me. Told me that the Dr.Aceves would meet with me in the morning to go over the surgery, along with the NUT and the anesthesiologist to go over the surgery and after care in detail. She then said, go have a wonderful dinner of whatever your heart desires! I had fillet mignon and a margarita ;) heh heh
Ernesto brought us to the Crowne Royal Hotel in Mexicali, which was amazing. It was a beautiful place to be.
The next morning at 7am, there was Ernesto all smiles waiting to take me to the hospital. I arrive and Yolanda and the nurse Lucy bring me to my room to get settled in. The room was lovely and soooo clean! I had a recliner and leather sofa as well as the bed. It wasn't like any hospital room I had been in the states. It was cozy and private.
Dr Aceves comes in first to meet me. He was so nice and fatherly. He went over the surgery in detail and explained all the benefits and risks. He did not sugar coat anything and made me aware of my part in the weight loss as well. He was very confident when he spoke and it put me at ease.
Then I spoke to the anesthesiologist. I had some concerns because my past surgical experiences with anesthesia had been down right horrible, and I was so nervous of a repeat. He assured me that he would do everything in his power to make sure I felt ok after surgery.
Then came the NUT who talked about what I would be consuming post surgery and thereafter. I was then given my happy pill and told that I would be in surgery within the hour.
The team of nurses came to get me and put me on the bed and wheeled me into the OR. Everyone was smiling and said Hola. I was just giggling from the damn pill and I couldn't stop. The nurse asked me to lay on my side, I think it was to give me the spinal..........but I dont remember, and I like it that way! :)
I woke up with someone saying Hola Melissa, and I yelled back that I was ALIVE! I was so happy.....lol! I had no pain no nausea, no retching. It felt like I woke up from a groggy nap. I could not believe that I was not sick or in pain!
A bit later they wheeled me back to my room where my mom was waiting with Dr Aceves. I don't remember much of anything the rest of the day because I was sleeping on and off but I do recall Dr Aceves going over the surgery with my mom and telling her how well it went. I remember my mom saying "My daughter has done a lot of research on you Dr. Aceves and from what I have heard from her is that you are a wonderful surgeon and people speak very highly of you" he then replied "Well, then no one has spoke to my wife". ;) I snorted (literally) when I heard him because I was so loopy.
The next few days were good. I tolerated liquids just fine and was up and walking like a pro. I had never had such good care in a hosp before. I was checked in on all the time. My vitals were always being checked and I got visits from Dr Aceves and Dr Campos 2-3 times a day. Cleaning ladies, there were cleaning ladies coming in my room 3x a day to clean! I don't know what they were cleaning but they were.....lol! I wanted them to come home with me. One of them was 5 months pregnant and would bring in shoes and clothing that the nurses got for her to show me, she was so excited. :)
I had all 3 leak tests done and I passed with flying colors. It was pretty cool to see the Xray one of my new banana belly.
Most of the nurses spoke English, and the ones who didn't, understood what my needs were. I never had a problem at all getting anything across.
The night before I left Yolanda and Lucy came in with all of my paperwork, lab work and X Rays for my PCP. They wished me luck with my new sleeve and said their goodbyes. Later on Dr Aceves came in to check on me as did Dr Campos to see if I had any questions or concerns. They to said their goodbyes and off to sleep I went. Ernesto would be picking me up at 7am to head back to San Diego.
The rest is history. :)
I have to say that my experience was wonderful. I was looked after and taken care of like a family member. People were so kind and the medical care I got was top notch. I would recommend Dr Aceves to anyone looking to self pay. My mom, who can be a tough critic was also extremely impressed with the care I received, and is thinking about going back for herself! :D
I am so happy with my choice in Dr Aceves and his team!
The End. :D

Congratulations!
I am getting ready to book for my daughters surgery.
Would you mind letting me know how much your cost was? Also do you have contact info for their team? I'd like to call and speak with them.
Thanks!!
