Aceves or Alvarez

Just starting out on this journey. From all I've read so far, I'm leaning towards Vertical Gastric Sleeve with Dr. Aceves (Mexicali) or Dr. Alvarez (Piedras Negras). I would love to hear both positive and (more important) not so positive experiences with either of them. Or, if you have another doc you love or hate, let me know so I can research them, too.

Thanks.

Hi I can only speak for Aceves but I would highly recommend him and his staff. I was taken care of as if I was the only one there. I have never heard a bad word against either of these doctors so either would be a great choice. I would have used either one but at the time Aceves had the best price and the airline ticket price was best for flying into San Diego. Good luck! I know that Aceves had never had a leak and has a great success rate.

Be nice to nurses....we keep doctors from killing you!

Tons of people have gone to each of them and I have never heard of anything going wrong so I don't think you would go wrong either way.  I would probably pick Aceves because his cost is less than Alvarez.  Wishing you all the best...the sleeve is amazing!!

Although I am not post op, I like you researched these Mexican Dr.s. I have decided on Aceves and I am confident with my decision. I have asked about him all over the place on here and on VS talk and I have heard nothing but rave reviews and very impressed patients.  I checked out his FACS and he's legit  ;)
and have called his PC Nina, who is very helpful and forthright with all questions and answers.

I am scheduled next week, and I couldn't be happier!

Good luck to you with your decicion!

I chose Aceves. Had a wonderful experience and am now trying to get my husband to have the surgery. If he does, we'll be going back to Aceves.

Hi - I think its a toss up and guess it would depend on how much you want to $$ since both are equally good.  you can read my blog on alvarez experience.  he is also the first to write a book on VSG. Him and his staff excellent.  KT

I went to Alvarez and finally chose him because of location  -- he was closer and the journey was easier.  My only complaint about him is that his driver that picked me up at the hotel and drove me to the hospital was texting a lot while driving -- fairly unnerving!

The surgery and all amenities were fine, and I felt very good about my care there.
