Dr Verboonen and aftercare in the states
I had my surgery in Tijuana in June and I can tell you that at least 6 months prior, I went on the search for a trusted WLS here in my area to do my aftercare. I was turned down by some, others wanted outrageous program fees, and some, like the surgeon I am dealing with now, took me on as one of his own and charges me very reasonable rates for aftercare. Start your search now, take time to speak to these doctors one on one, and ONLY when you have that aftercare in place, move forward with picking your Mexican surgeon. Mind you, this is just my humble opinion. I had a lapband put in, so it requires aftercare regardless, where surgeries like the sleeve, requires little to no maint. at all. Good Luck on your search!
Not dumb tons of abbreviations for short hand typing. PCP is primary care provider (physican). What surgery are you having or considering? This will guide how much and for how long you will need aftercare. The surgeon I choose is in Mexico (Dr Aceves) and alot of the support / after care can be over the phone and through a general medical provider but I am having a VSG. Bands would require more frequent aftercare which is one of the reasons I opted against that option. Good luck in your Journey

You don't need much in terms of aftercare for the surgery - lap band you will need a fill center - but most other surgeries, the after care is minimal.
I talked to my primary Dr. the one who suggested I look into surgery to begin with. I told them my insurance wouldn't cover surgery in the US, and I researched and found a Dr. I trusted in Mexico. He was very supportive, and will be doing any after care I need.
And by after care, I mean checking my bloodwork for deficiencies, looking at my weight loss, ordering and upper GI after 3-6 months. And just general check-ups.
He demanded I come and see him 1 month post-op so he could see how well I've done, and just to check out incisions healing, etc.
You don't really need a bariatric specialist post op.
