Thanks for the advice !! My mom is going to travel with me and we were just talking about what to bring. (books, cards, music -ipod) I so appreciate the information and advice.. its great that this forum exists. 

You're welcome.  Also, if you or your mother don't speak and comprehend basic Spanish, print out useful Spanish phrases before you go.  The surgeon speaks heavily-accented English regarding the procedure but will have a translator present if needed.  The main nurse Lupita only spoke a couple of words of English, so I translated for my roommate

You are a genius ! I have been thinking about so much I had completely forgotten how little Spanish I do speak and wasn't sure what I was going to do. Thanks again for the advice.
