I will be taking my blackberry with me to MX. They don't need any kind of adaptor do they? They use the same electrical current standards we do..right?

You won't need an adapter. Their outlets are the same as ours.  Good luck to you with your surgery. It was the best thing I ever did for myself.

I couldn't get a signal except for the shopping district?!  I have T-mobile.

It will work but unless you have an international calling plan the prices will kill you. I put the Skype app on my phone, put $10 on my account and got 1 cent a minute. Then I let my neighbors use my phone too because there was just no way to use up all the time.

I went to Dr. Alvarez and used my iPhone the whole time.  I added the Mexico plan to my account before I went, but while in the hospital I was still on US signal except at one extreme end of the hallway when I was walking it converted to a Mexican cell tower.  So I talked plenty and it never cost me anything.  The hospital is less than 1 mile across the border.  They have regular outlets to charge your phone, no adapter needed.  My room also had a computer & free wifi too.

There shouldn't be an additional charge if I run off the free wifi correct? I have Verizon. Of course I also have the skype app. on my phone which I have never used so I guess I can do that as well.
Thanks,
Sunshine

Check your plan with your carrier - I have an international I-phone - there is no fee for data when I use wifi.  But if I am on 3G - whoaaa - the data can double my phone bill.   I can't speak of Piedras Negras - but many Mexican hospitals, airports and government buildings have free wifi.

Call your phone company and see what the rates are. My Iphone was a little high so I used Skype on my laptop and it was great.
