Did you get a fast date and/or go early to enjoy MX before surgery?

I was just wondering how long it would take to have surgery scheduled if I already had a passport and all. Is there a period in the year that more people tend to go have surgery in Mexico than other times? Not that it would matter but just curious. I know it isn't a real vacation but I was thinking of maybe going a few days early to shop, sightsee, etc. I most likely will be going to Tijuana and wonder if it would be okay or not since I read the border towns are sometimes dangerous. I love to shop and would really hate to miss out on a possible shopping trip unknowingly. So if anyone has the inside scoop on TJ feel free to let me know!

PS - I gotta ask if anyone cheated when they got down there? lol. I can do the pre-op diet since I have done the Medifast diet before but the thought of not tasting a great mexican meal while there is really what's gonna get to me

it's up to you... you should go to a weather site and see what feels good for you... I was two weeks ago and it was great weather in San Deigo and also TJ... cool nights... not hot during the day... some stay and shop after their surgery.... I flew in Sunday/Surgery Monday early afternoon... Tuesday night a whole group went to a brand new Theatre Complex and the theatre had lounge seats/and chair service... for those who were not sipping on ice... Wed after leak test they drove a few of us over the boarder... I watched daughter have lunch at a waterside cafe and we walked.. then took trolley to Old Town and we walked all around and sat for a while while she enjoyed a margherita and we both enjoyed the strolling band. Flew home Thursday to the eastcoast... and was ative all that weekend with family obligations.... BTY the theatre complex was in a brand new Galleria.. that many stores still hadn't opened.. high end... Burberry etc.

BTY.. as for cheating before surgery.... two years ago when my daughter went to Alverez it wasn't considered cheating to have a great mexican dinner ... as long as you had nothing before midnight... I cheated with half sandwich on board the plane & some humas and crackers Sunday and had no ill effects...

Thanks LAX111 for the info. I didn't think about searching for the weather. I hate the heat so wanted to go around September or October hoping it would be a lil cooler. I sure hope the Galleria is up and running by then. High end is what i'm talking about!

If you decide to go early, stay at San Diego! It is an absolutly wonderful city. You will be picked up at the airport anyway, so stay there and shop then head to TJ for your surgery!! I went the day ahead for both of my surgeries and loved the shopping in SD, I would not shop in TJ without an escort. Good luck, what Dr are you considering?

Wow, is TJ really that bad? I am not gonna risk it so I will take your advice and stay in Cali for a few days instead. As for the doctor, I am pretty much settling for  Ponce DeLeon.

I travel to TJ some - just go with someone familiar with where to be and where not to be.  I am sure your surgeon or patient rep can recommend a driver/escort that will keep you in the better parts of town.

Well it sounds like alot of people on the mexico forum have been to tijuana and been just fine.  Just stay with your escort and in the daytime and dont stray the main streets.  That is the same advice as most major cities.  Im sure you would be just fine. I think you can go shopping a couple days after surgery if your feeling up to it.
