What is the word on Dr. Jaime Ponce DeLeon?
Glad to hear it! He is really in my price range but so are a few more. I just like the fact that I have seen his name as a few people surgeon on here. I did see in my search that he worked with Dr. V but do not know much about him either.
I am really torn though with the desire to have the surgery I want and the surgery I can afford. I guess it will just take a bit of research like so many of you did to decide.

Wow... be really careful. There is only one surgeon in MX I would go to for DS and that is Ungson. Have you checked other countries? You really want a doctor with a 'good' rep and one with a lot of experience in an actual hospital. DS is a great surgery type but OMG, you have to go to someone really good. Little complications go really bad quickly with the wrong doctor.

Yeah, Dr. Ungson is a great doctor from what I hear but I truly can't afford him. I was told by a few people on here Dr. Ponce is good as well. But I honestly wanted to get the public's opinion as well. I have seen he people have used him but wanted to hear from them hopefully. Two months ago we had someone who told us (on the DS board) that she couldn't afford Ungson and, in spite of all the warnings, she went elsewhere. She is currently on her fourth post-op hospital stay. They treat her in the ER and resolve the immediate issue...in her case, that she is starving to death since she cannot eat at all...but there is no DS doctor who wants to take on someone else's screw-up especially on a pro-bono basis and the non-DS doctors are clueless as to what is vs. what should be, so the CAUSE is unknown and is not in the process of being repaired,
I don't know what Ungson charges. But I would find a way to get the rest of the money. Here's what's going on with Larissa...we have seen this too often:

Just be very careful. Some doctors are doing procedures they are not really skilled or experienced just for the $$. Check out MANY patients coming here to this very forum. Read the last months worth of threads. See who has allllll the many complications and see which clinic they used. Those complications cost them more than you can imagine. Months and months in the hospital, loss of jobs, incredible loss of income, loss of their very health. One has been in the hospital for the most part since March. One was in the hospital since Jan and she just got out a couple of weeks ago and may be on her way back in since her leak isn't healed yet. You just have no idea how many complications some clinics have and those with months and months in the hospital are not rare, they are not regardless of what you are told by any coordinator. These dirty clinics and inexperienced doctors have cost people more than you can imagine. They save $2K in surgery and the trade off is a good part of their lives.
It's just not worth it to go to someone who isn't really that experience in a given surgery type. Save your money until you go to someone with a good rep and loads of experience. And the best advice I can give you is to never trust a bloody word a coordinator tells you. They will and have told people anything it takes to get their business. They lie when the truth makes more sense. Some coordinators are honest, some are not. YOU don't know who is honest and who isn't so you must assume they are all lying through their teeth and verify every single word that comes out of their mouths.
You take big big risks when you pick a surgeon by price. It might be a whole lot more expensive in the end.

I went back and re read several posts but did not see anything bad about Dr. Ponce. Could you please direct me to the info you are referring? I read some bad things about Dr. Almanza but then there are people saying grat things. So it is confusing like you said but I will keep reading to see if I find anything. Thanks for the advice.
I haven't ever seen anything bad about Dr. Ponce either. I know that Dr. Almanza has had a lot of controversy on this board lately and I believe MidwesternGirl is probably referring to the fact that Dr. Ponce is affliated with Dr. Almanza...whom she makes it very clear that she is not a fan of.
Dr. Ponce is also affliated with many other surgeons as well. He has been in the field for over 10 years and is teacher as well as a surgeon. That is why many other doctors assist in surgery with him...because he is actually teaching them more skills in a wide variety of bariatric surgeries.
I think this is a great post for others to tell their personal experiences with Dr. Ponce de Leon.
