If I found a shot with 50gr protein in 4 oz but it has 230 calories. Im only planning on using it for the first 10 days (clear liquid phase of post op) so do you guys think it an acceptable amount of calories for that many grams of protiens?
Thanks!

Hello,

Your body doesn't absorb more than 30grams of protein at one time.  I say go safe and just try like yogurt of regular protein shakes. I still haven't done a shake, just a freeze bar or a few sips of broth fill me up.   Happy Tuesday!

Its not really calories you should worry about but carbs. How many carbs?

I would say go for it, I just can't imagine it will taste good, but there are people that can drink yucky stuff, I'm not one of them! lol.

Just remember 4 oz is a lot, your tummy will probably be 3 oz and it will be swelled up so less than that.

good luck, can't wait to hear about it!

The ones I use are 120 calories, 1 carb and 30 grams of protein.  They mix in 4oz or less of water and don't taste "that bad". :D  It is true that you can't absord more than 30 grams at a time so it is a waste to drink something with more protein.  Also, what you drink needs to be whey protein isolate not collagen based protein....like the bullets contain.

 Hi Sam!

I had the same idea!

230 cals and 2 carbs is about right for 50 grams of protein. And, Kimberly is on the money with the collagen vs. isolate aspect. But, at the time, I didn't worry about it that much as the idea was to get in fluids and protein as best as I could.

I was able to drink a lot of fluid at one time, immediately post-op (to now). So, doing one of those shots was 'easy' for me. Please consider that it might be difficult to do the same, as we are all different. Hmmm....how about buying 1 and trying to sip it, just in case?

I bought too many of them so I gave them to our local food bank.

Hope you're doing well!
