Hey All,

Just out of curiousity, did any of you need to do the liquid diet prior to surgery? I didn't know if those that were sleeved needed to do one or not. If you did, what did it consist of?

Yes, I was told to do five to seven days of liquids, like broth, popsicles, jello, and slimfast-type shakes.

They tell everyone differently...one of their "quirks". lol  I was told by THE CLINIC, because my coordinator had said two different things, that lower bmi patients only had to do 3 days so if I were you I would take that and run with it.  hehe

Melissa told me 5-7.  I'll clarify with her, and probably do 5.  My BMI's in the lower range too, so it seems like enough!

Seems like all docs have a different time frame.  However, research states that a longer liquid diet shrinks your liver making it not only easier for the surgeon to work, but also speeds recovery.  Sister and hubby did a 21 day liquid diet.  Sister only had 4 incisions, and although 110 pound overweight, recovered like rock star.  Hubby's recovery was different of course, but he has lost alot of weight compared to most people.  If I had it to do over again, I would do a longer liquid diet.

There is no value in a low carb liquid diet, none. It is arrogance on the part of these surgeons to even suggest such a thing. There is no study out there that demonstrates why a low carb liquid diet is superior to a low carb solid food diet. A chicken breast has fewer carbs than a protein shake.

I was told by my aftercare doctor (not my surgeon), that for higher BMI patients like myself, it is simply a tool to shrink the liver and to jumpstart weightloss at the same time. Can eating solid protein do the same thing?
