Do I need to take any protien with me?
I am going on June 15th for my sleeve :) to Mexicali with Aceves. I know I need protein. Should I bring some for the day I am traveling home to go int my water? Any food type stuff I should take and suggestions for some brands? I got the free samples Chike I think but are there any free samples for the clear phases?
Of course you know that the best advice would come from Dr. Aceves himself, but I can tell you that I didn't have to drink any protein while I was in the hospital (3 days) because my nutrition was delivered through IV (and partially through a gastric feeding tube, but you won't have one of those unless you're having the Fobi).
I did have to start drinking protein as soon as I was out of the hospital. I took a small bag with me. I just grabbed an inexpensive bag from CVS and left it unopened so that it wouldn't cause delays in customs. When I got out of the hospital, I went to a GNC that was near my hotel and bought a big canister of banana flavored whey isolate. Thankfully, I was able to fit it into my carryon and brought it home without any problems. I wouldn't suggest buying a big container as you probably won't be there as long as I was (10 days). But, do get some protein for the days after your hospital stay.
That would be the only food type stuff you'd need to take with you or get while you're there. I bought sugar free popsicles while I was there, too. They're not necessary, but they're NICE!
As for brand, I personally use GNC's Amplified Whey Protein in chocolate and cookies and cream (and that jug of banana I bought in Mexico). It's pricey, but they often sell it on buy one get one half off. It's also, in my opinion, really yummy! But, you just can't take anyone's advice on what's tasty or not. Something happens to our tastes after surgery. You'll just have to try a little bit of everything!
Good luck to you and I'm so happy for you! Keep us posted!

You wont be ready for any protein shakes...when I was sleeved, there was a woman who used the South Beach diet to-go packets that have protein in them to add to her water but I just focused on water. I took Crystal Light packets with me for my waters and that was a big plus. Save all your fancy proteins for when you get home as you'll just be focusing on water and broth for the first few days....unless of course your doctor says otherwise! :)
The one thing that worked best for me in the immediate post-op period was Unjury chicken soup flavour. Having said that, although I did bring it to the hospital, I didn't use it. I wouldn't worry about being hungry on the flight home though - just make sure you stay hydrated - you might bring a couple flavor packets from ramen soup mix, to mix with ho****er on the plane and/or some crystal light individual servings, to mix into a bottle of cold water.
Also, for the clear liquid phase I did use the unjury and also found that I tolerated the Isopure clear bottled protein - if I mixed in a half packet or so of crystal light. I think that the nectars are also ok for the clear phase and you can get samples from bariatriceating.com.
Good luck! I had a fantastic experience in Mexicali and hope that it is just as good
for you!

You might order some samples from bariatriceating.com too. They have the only protein I can tolerate because I can't stand the milky ones...they make me gag. Their Inspire powder in Pom Raz Sangria is the only thing I use. It mixes in only 4 oz of water so I just chug it down and get it over with. It has 30 grams of protein and I drink 2 every day. I found that I just couldn't sip on a milky protein shake no matter how hard I tried. I also have a marked surge of energy after I drink one so I love that. I am soooo excited for you!!
