Hi there, I have a 25 year old daughter who has decided to have the gastric bypass surgery. We have done many hours of research on this and I am completely on board with her decision. I would like to hear from anyone that has information on Dr. Armando Joya (Puerto Vallarta). We will be heading to Mexico probably by the end of May. Thank you, Deanne

VSG on 11/11/09 with
I had VSG with Dr. Joya back in November and had a wonderful experience.  There were  no hidden costs.  I did purchase some medications at the Walmart, which were recommended by Dr. Joya (but not required).  Any specific questions, please PM me and I'll be more than happy to provide specific info and advice.

VSG on 04/28/10 with
I just returned last night from Puerto Vallarta and surgery with Dr. Joya.  She will be in terrific hands.  I had a wonderful experience.  The only addiitonal expense I had was for the prescriptions that they wanted me to have following discharge.   I spent an additional 140.00 I think it ended up being.  I already take priolosec they recommend nexium but were fine with it and I also had a script from my PCP for pain meds (vicoden) but they gave me a package of something else just in case.  There were also a couple other things I had to pick up.  I would recommend Dr. Joya to anyone.  My surgery went without a hitch and I felt terrific 3 days following my surgery.  I traveled with my mom and daughter and we had a wonderful time.  I saw 3 other people there while I was there as well and I know of another leaving tomorrow.   She won't be disappointed.  Plus it's a beautifuly place to recover.

Good Luck to your daughter please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions or if I may be of any assistance.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing... I am going to look into Dr. Joya also.  My daughter wants the Lap band and wants to go to Mexico to get it done.  Please let me know how it went and if you would recommend him to us.  Thank you again...Rosie

Hi,

Make sure you can find a local surgeon/doctor who'll be willing to do the fills before getting the lapband. I had a vsg done because I couldn't find one. I am so happy with my decision not to do the band. Have you checked out the lapband forum?

I am 5 weeks out of my vsg with Dr Joya and he was incredible.

If you need more info, feel free to email me [email protected]
