Let's continue offering suggestions and ideas for Clinica Jerusalem

Wow, I didn't get anything...I wished there had been a more organized check-out process; like an RN coming to the house to say I was cleared to leave or something.  I wasn't having any problems but all I had to do to leave was tell the driver when I needed to go to the airport.

Maybe they could have a whiteboard in the recovery house that lists who has "checked in", when they are "checking out", etc.

I didn't have one of the super-active coordinators like Melanie or Melissa so maybe that is why I didn't get the packet you are talking about.  My coordinator works for Medical Tourism Co. and is in SC and had never been to the clinic.  I didn't even know there were such "hands-on" coordinators until I was there. The information she sent me pre-op had a lot of grammatical and typographical mistakes and even the wrong doctors name listed in some places. That needs to be fixed if it is the standard packet that Almanza's office sends out.

Yeah my cordinator told me she will be there which kind of shocked me.  I never actually thought I would get to meet her and I was told some of them do that.  I just thought they set up the surgery and thats it.  Maybe im naive or something but i think its pretty cool they go at all.  Yeah def a more organized schedule sounds in order.  You are right nursiegirl, just ignore all the bs.  I think the suggestion of finding out what they can do to make the experience better is so great.  What place do you see doing that.  I myself like I said before cant make a suggestion but it makes me feel so much better knowing they are trying to do that.

I agree with some type of master itinerary........for example....

John Doe
Surgery at 2 pm
Recovery Room til 8 pm
Hospital Room til discharge
Recovery House Van leaving at 4 pm
Trip to Radiologist for final leak test at 3 pm
Driver pick up for airport at 10 am

And then MAKE SURE these times are met and kept.

The most frustrating part I/sister had was the unknown schedule of things.

I understand there are variables, but there should be some continuity that can be counted on.

The large bottle of gas liquid was not ewffective for me. Too sweet and too much liquid running aroun in my stomach with the acid already in there.

It is also too big to take on the plane so we left it there. You can take it in checked baggage but we didn't have any.

I started taking my Nexium uncrushed the day I got to the recovery house because the acid was killing me.

I agree---the bottle of liquid anti-nausea is too big to take on the plane and we ended up flushing it at the hotel before we left---and I actually did use it and would have liked to take it with me.

It helped me if I took it before taking the pilI antibiotic as it seemed to coat my stomach and not have such a bitter taste.

I crushed my antibiotics by hand but I imagine some people would prefer an actual pill-crusher.

Also, the pain medication was given to me in a netted bag (like a wedding favor) and it was not labeled other than on a piece of paper.  I did not feel comfortable crossing the border with "unidentified" pain pills. They should be in a bottle labeled.  I never used any of these but kept them with me "just in case".

My pain pills cam in a box in two "blister packs". the antibiotic came in a bottle of its own. both were labeled by the manufactureer and corresponded with the post op packet info. Must have been more changes...")

Another suggestion:

It would take either a miracle or a remodel but the hallway in the clinic is WAY too small.  Trying to walk laps there was very difficult.  It's too short and too narrow.  I had to "pull over" with my IV cart to let others by if I was walking.

My second night after surgery, my husband and I were moved to the Ramada due to overcrowding and to be able to walk those halls was fantastic.  Walking helps so much with the post-op gas and we are encouraged to do it but it is almost impossible due to the size of the clinic...unless of course you would want to go outside and walk around the plaza.

The bathrooms also need handicapped "grab bars" as it is difficult to pull oneself up after surgery.  If I didn't have my husband there, I would have been SOL...and might still be sitting there ;)

I see Stoongal and her sister Linda have a lot of really helpful comments on the blog on Stoongal's page for ways to improve this clinic.
