Hi. I am so excited aobut my surgery. I am going to have the sleeve. The last couple of days have been a bit worrysome. For some reason I have this feeling that I am going to get down there and the surgery wont happen. About 5 years ago I had a nissen fundoplication. Which is where part of the top part of the stomach is wrapped around the esophagus to prevent GERD. I am so worried that I am going to have adhesions and he wont be able to do surgery. Is there another surgery that can be done? If the adhesions are at the top of my stomach can I get the malabsorbion part of a surgery instead. I know i am worrying over stupid things. Will he talk with me and figure something out? If anyone can help me out. I would so much appreciate it. Thanks ya'll are awesome.

Hi Rachael,
Congrats on your surgery date...
Please tell me if I'm wrong, but when you ask, "Will he talk with me and figure something out"? it sounds like you've booked the surgery without talking to Dr Almanza, first? If so, I don't think it's wise to go down there without discussing all of this it with him (or any other surgeon for that matter) -- neither one of you needs to be surprised on the day of surgery.
Kind regards,
Cheryl

I agree with BigisBad,
Your questions need to be answered by the surgeon. And, if it was me, I would not have booked surgery with any surgeon, until they were answered.
The coordinator coordinates, and the surgeon, surgeons (:) just kidding! performs the surgery and makes those decisions at the time of the surgery. But those decisions need to be based on your needs. For example, if you don't talk to him and form a Plan B, who decides (if the sleeve is not viable) whether you should have an RNY, Mini GB or DS?
I don't think you are worrying about "stupid things" at all. If anything, your post sounds like you may be taking things too lightly.
Take care of yourself,
Cheryl

From my experience, the time you will have to talk with Dr. Almanza just prior to the surgery is very limited, also his English is not the best, so I don't think this is a good time to start talking about Plan B. He stood in the door way and explained our procedures and what would happen and asked several times if we had any questions.
I did have a comcern to discuss with him and the translator listened to what I wanted Dr. almanza to know then translated it for him. He translated dr. almanza's answerin spanish into fro english for me. I was completely satisfied.
there will be time to formulate Plan B. It could be as simple as if He can;t do the VSG what if any other surgery do you want instead and if not do you want to close with no surgery.
