Out of Surgery and Feeling Great
I had my RNY with Dr. Almanza yesterday (4/9) about 1:00 pm I was out around 2:30 and everything is great so far.
There were five surgeries scheduled for the day, two RNYs, one lap-band and two sleeves. Me and one other person who had an RNY were transferred to Hospital Vida, a larger hospital for our surgeries.
Both of us came through the surgery feeling great. I was up and walking around just a couple of hours after surgery. The facility is very clear and the nurses are taking great care of me. I was so excited, I even got to take a shower this morning, I didn't think I would be able to do that until I got the the recovery house
Another exciting this was I got a sucker at about 10:45 am today, I am more of a salt lover, but the sucker sure tasted great even though I couldn't swallow it -- I did get to swish my mouth to with some water earlier this morning which was quite refreshing, especially since I haven't had anything since 7:00 pm on 4/8.
I am amazed at how well I feel, I was expecting to be in a lot of pain, I don't really have a lot of blotting from gas build up, nothing that is uncomfortable, however I am burping a lot more than normal, so I know there is gas in there, but just not enough to make me uncomfortable. The worst thing is it feels like I have done 1000 sit-ups and my abs are ache when I get out of bed, cough or sneeze, but if that is the worst of it, I can definitely handle it.
I don't want this to turn into a doctor, clinic or coordinator bashing session, but the negative things I have read on the board about Dr. Almanza and clinic(s) and/or hospitals he uses are far from true. The staff here have been nothing but professional, hygienic and attentive to my every need. Sometime I may have been a little hard to communicate because of the language barrier, but I was always able to get across what I needed or wanted.
My husband was trying to figure out what to do for breakfast this morning when one of the staff popped in to tell him just let them know when he is ready to get breakfast and they will take him. He ended just walking across the street to Burger King for a Whopper Jr. --- thanks goodness he ate it there. I don't know that it would have bothered me too much since I don't have any kind of appetite right now. He had KFC for dinner last night (one of my favorites) and that didn't bother me, so I can't imagine Burger King would have had much of an impact.
I am in the hospital until Monday and then I head to the Recovery House for two nights.

It's my understanding that I was moved because the RNY is a more complex surgery and the hospital I am at is bigger with cardiologist, ER care and other professionals on staff.
I don't know that it's really an option, but more based on need. The other patient that was moved with me also had an RNY (actually she converted from a Lap-Band to an RNY) so her surgery was even more complex and took 3-4 hours.

CONGRATULATIONS!! WOO HOO!!!
I had my surgery with Dr. Almanza I went there wanting the Bypass (RNY) and then decided on the VSG. I think you are right with Hospital Vida ad the RNY as that is where I was originally scheduled for surgery then I changed my mind to the VSG and stayed at Jerusalem.
So happy that you are doing so well.
