My surgery, or surgeries took place mid January. At 69 yrs I was not progressing successfully from my lapband of 3 yrs and had it removed and the sleeve done. I also was so impressed with Dr. Almanza that I had him repair a very hardened and large muscle in my rib/ab area. It caused me to have to wear loose, maternity-type tops. Basically, a hernia type of repair. I had tons of stitches from that. I have been tightly banded with either a corset or a back brace since then. IT WORKED. My big hard muscle has become small and flat and I am thrilled. I have also lost 24 lbs and am ecstatic. Talk about inches, I am down from an XL to 8 Adolfo jeans and Medium tees. I am thrilled. I know I will be in the 140's for my birthday.
Re Peanut free Mom---There is nothing worse than a woman scorned. That is what I am afraid we are hearing. She is angry and hurt and trying to get even. Trust the voices of those of us who actually were there and went thru procedures and have no bone to pick with anyone and have had excellent results. Melanie, (Peanut free Mom) would never have had her TT and Breast augmentation in such a horrible place if all those horrendous stories she has made up about "infections in stitches" etc were true. Would you???? Yet she did. She was next on the surgical schedule after me and was thrilled at her results. Re jokey, jokey docs fooling around outside of the surgery, We all have seen that---it helps to keep them going and means nothing. My Gyn and the nurses were dancing before my 3rd was born -- I worked for a group of 18 docs and I could tell you funny stories. It has nothing to do with their surgical or medical integrity and abilities. Bottom line, Highly recommend Dr. Almanza and his surgical staff and his Clinic in TJ.

Congratulations on doing great and having a successful surgery with a wonderful surgeon. Also Bravo to you for sharing your story while there are so many people (most were never patients) trying to knock this surgeon down.
I don't know if you have looked at the regular VSG boards to see all of the controversy, but I recommend you do. Some of the things being said on there are quite shocking. I, as well as other patients have repeatedly posted our positive experiences, but it seems that our PERSONAL EXPERIENCES mean nothing compared to "what they've heard."
Hugs,
Christi

Hey Christi,
I am just cherishing the opportunity and good luck that got me to Dr. Almanza and thru the surgery. I feel courageous, positive and gutsy and once the decision was made, flew thru with flying colors. With my heart condition, they put me threw the "Wringer" in getting stateside pre-surgical clearances before appearing on their Doorstep---. And, even thou I wanted PS on my arms right then and there at the time of my surgery, They declined and said, they wanted to get me back on my blood thinner regimen ASAP and they did not want to keep me under longer than necessary. Advised to do it later and separately. That said it all to me. With so many stitches from my hernia repair and the few from the various lap and revision ports, the blood thinners effect that and I think there was an issue with having additional lines of stitches as well running up the back of each arm with more bleeding/scaring from the blood thinners. So I hope to deal with that at a different time.

Thank you all so much for continuing to post your positive experiences with Dr. Almanza. I have decided to get the VSG from him and hope to have my surgery scheduled during the last week of April. I'd do it sooner but I still need to get my passport so that is the hold up. I'm considering getting the rush service so I can schedule a firm date.
Just wanted to let all of you know that I appreciate hearing your experiences. When I read some of the stuff on the VSG board I was starting to get a bit worried but after more review and research the positive is outweighing the negative comments.

This is exactly what I think too. at first I was thinking the most recent poster of doom was telling the truth. Now I am not so sure.
it seems that the problems posted are SO over the top as to be ridiculous compared to the good outcomes.
There were some really bad complication" posts prior to my surgery. I like you, chose to be reasonable do the research and keep count of the positive to the negative. I came out with the same mind set you have, went and got my surgery and have had no complications.
Good luck on your journey and keep us posted. Can't wit to welcome you to the loser's bench!
