How long were you in Mexico?
I'm having open ds in April. I'm not so happy about the length of stay. For my April 5th surgery (Monday), the earliest she (is Luz a girl?!) said I could fly home is the next Tuesday. That's four days in the hospital and five in the hotel. Really?? that is a LOOONG time away from my babies. I get home sick when I'm gone for 4 days.
Yes, Luz is female!
I am planning on having DS with Ungson in the next few months. I hate being away from home as well, but in this case, it comes down more to doing what I need to do for my physical health, rather than trying to rush things so I can have the warm and fuzzies at home.
When I arrive home, I want to be able to walk fine, get up and down with ease, and have a decent energy level (especially since I imaging there will be plenty of housework to be done). I don't want to hurt myself or be hurt on accident by those who love me and are glad that I am home.
I think it basically comes down to either appreciate the time you will have to 'really' recover and be close to your surgeon during the first week and a half of recovery, or go home early and risk having to be in bed recuperating due to rushing it or having to explain your surgery to a local doctor who probably doesn't know the first thing about DS in the off chance that something isn't just quite right.
I will definitely get homesick and I will miss everyone (I will be going to Mexico alone), but I am fully going to make the best of my 10 day recovery period so that I can be at my strongest as I begin my new, healthy life.
You will ultimately be in control of what you do, and if you find yourself at the hotel thinking you are ready to go home, then realistically you can leave anytime. If you are flying, you may need to pay a reticketing penalty, but no one can keep you at the hotel if you don't want to be there!
Good luck to you on your surgery, and I hope you post about every detail!

I'm planning on being with Dr Huacuz from Wednesday to the next Wednesday. No hotel, I stay at his clinic the entire time.
Duodenal Switch hybrid due to complications.
