tap water in Mexico?

I am planning on taking powdered protein with me to Mexico for surgery with Dr. Ungson, but it just occured to me the reputation of Mexico's water.  Since I will be going to Mexico alone, I will not have the luxury of having someone run to the store for bottled water while I am recuperating at the hotel, and the idea of packing bottles of water to bring with me doesn't sound realistic.

Can anyone here shed some light on my issue of the day?  Thanks so much!

Good luck on your upcoming procedure.

Water is sold at almost every where.  Its good, cheap, and purified. Most of the containers are larger than here so you can buy enough for your protien drinks. You can trust the bottled water, but do not use the tap water for anything but showering, and remember not to brush your teeth with it

Good Luck and happy healing!

I packed 5 bottles of water in my suitcase.  I only used two of them for my crystal light mixes beginning day three post op.  I can't imagine having protien so soon after surgery.  I didn't start the protein until the second week, well after I was home.  The first week it was strictly clear liquids: chicken broth, sugar free pops, jello, ice chips  etc.
Good luck with your procedure!  I love my sleeve!!

Thanks so much for the info!  And you are right . . .  I am not going to be drinking protein powders right afterwards, I think I was getting ahead of myself.  But for the clear liquids, yes, I will definitely avoid the tap water.

Thank you, thank you!

I lived in missouri a couple of years and the water is HORRIBLE there, you cant drink it where i lived and it smelled bad.  people compensate when there are problems like that and im sure the hospital has bottled water and people sell it everywhere! I wouldnt worry and i havent seen that issue come up on these boards so im sure its not a problem.

Pizzacat,
I have to tell you something funny.  Prior to my surgery I prepared my kitchen.  Got the blender out.  Moved dishes to make room for the protein tubs. Threw out junk.  Bought lot's of chicken and beef broth.  Huge cans.  I even made a whole huge batch of turkey~veggie broth and froze many containers full.

Well, funny thing, my eyes were sooo much bigger before.  Don't know what I was thinking!  With my new tiny tummy less than half a cup of broth was an entire meal!  I bought and stocked up my pantry based on my old tummy and appetite size.  I will have broth in my kitchen for the next ten years! LOL
And the broth phase only lasted me about one week.  Then I graduated to more gourmet soups.  It was fun shopping for those! But, I even bought too many of those! LOL

Even tonight I cooked a nice Valentine's dinner for the two of us.  I bought way way too much food.  When I go to the grocery store I really have to think in terms of feeding one person.  My boyfriend.  Not me........  cause I hardly eat anything!

So, I guess my advise to you would be to not stock up the way you may be used to doing.  My eyes are still bigger than my stomach but my sleeve won't let me over eat the way I used to. Thank goodness!
