HI Laura,

I went to Almanza in Nov.  My BMI was a 34.  I had no pre-op diet.  The day before my surgery, in San Diego.  I had gourmet pizza and a hot fudge sundae for lunch & an avocado and bacon omelet and pancakes for dinner:)  I was supposed to just not eat or drink after midnight.  It worked for me no problems.  Good luck!

Mitzi I just heard from my coordinator and she said the same thing. No preop diet just nothing to eat after midnight the night before surgery. I am so relieved.

Mitzi and Laura, this is VERY good news to me!!  I was really worried about the pre op diet situation.  Thanks!

FYI,Dr. Almanza's pre op diet is dependent on your BMI. Mine is high and I have to do a 2 week preop diet of shakes and salads with protein.

I didn't HAVE to do a preop diet, but my bmi was about 43, so I decided to go very low carb for 2 days before surgery, then the night before surgery   ugghhh    ordered pizza forthe kids- DUMMY IT IS MY FAVORITE- and I ate 4 pieces!!
 Aftermidnight, I had nothing, my surgery wasn't until 3 pm, soaround 10 am or so I had a small amount of apple juice on the plane, and a little water, but nothingafterthat , and no food at all. I had noproblems whatsoever during surgery, BRING SOMEONE WITH YOU.
