Price Differences !!!

Hi - I have received quotes from 3 different surgons in Mexico and don't know how to think about the price diffrences!  All three cover the same pre-op and post-op, all are experienced and have received positive testimonials on this board and appear to be equivalent choices.  But I am confused as to how come these price differences are possible.  The simple answer might be that they cut corners - but that seems unfair as all appear to have good reputations and receive strong endorsements from former patients.  How should I think about this?

I think it is all about what the market will bear. If people willpay higher prices, people will charge them.  It is a business in MX without insurance companies telling the surgeons what they will receive.

I don't think it is cutting corners. some surgeons have said they buy supplies in such bulk amounts they get a good price and are able to pass that on to their patients.

Some surgeons have said they have marble counter tops in their rooms and they are passing that cost on to their patients, also.

For me, more expensive doesn't necessarilly mean better. Everything being basically equal,as you have said,it really boils down to who you feel most  comfortable with.

Good luck on your journey,
H

I think you'll find there is a price difference if the Dr. operates out of an actual hospital or a clinic.  Sometimes they say it's a hospital, but you really need to do your homework.    They all have people giving testimonials about their services.  It's hard to say if they are actual patients in all cases.  There is an excellent blog further down the page on MidwesternGirl's profile.  She is a nurse and she has a really informative article about how to research a Mexican surgeon.  For your safety do your homework.

Good luck!

I am a research nut. I research everything compusively. My advice, figure out what 3 things about this surgery are your main issues, research which Dr meets these expectations and then go with that choice. If you have questions, I can point you to some good research. I would be glad to help.

I loved Dr. Rodriguez.  He performs the surgeries at a brand new hospital.  I wouldnt trade my experience!  I know several other girls on these boards that used Dr. Rodriguez and all of us are very happy!  He often runs specials too.
If you like I can give you the number to my coordinator.

I had a WONDERFUL price and a WONDERFUL experience. As far as Midwesterngirl....not an impartial source for information whatsoever.....

Here is what I wonder about you
.....are you healthy in general
Are you knowledgable about your general health and the surgery
Are you laid back about frills and perks or are they a must have.....
Do you want to get a safe surgery and dont require alot of handholding
......if so I think you can handle Mexico......
I used Dr. Almanza....LOVED him....if you go to Tijuana bring someone....

I agree with everyone else that less expensive does not mean poorer quality, clinic vs hospital,  length of stay in hospital etc.
As for Midwesterngirl some of her data is accurate much of it is NOT. Much of what she posts as "facts" cannot be verified, she refuses to give sources or where her info came from.
She does have her devotees but many many folks have come to view anything she says with suspicion.

Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?

Yeah, careful with what Midwesterngirl posts.

A large part of the difference in price has to do with whether or not the doctor Rents space in the hospital or medical clinic, or, does the doctor OWN the medical clinic.

When I was shopping for a surgeon and a guy was quoting me $6,500 for a sleeve procedure, I told him I could get if for $5,200 right down the road.  The guy proceeded to BASH the cheaper surgeon!  OMG he tried to scare the death out of me telling me the cheaper surgeon used a cheaper staple on the stomach and that he even shared the unsanitized staple gun with several patients!   OMG what LIES!   LOL

The best bashing came from an RN who was trying depserately to get me to have the Lapband done by her Mexican surgeon in a real foofy hospital for $7,000!  I think not...........

The truth of the matter is some medical centers are privately owned thus cutting our costs.  Also, some doctors are more savvy then others and understand the concept of buying medical supplies in bulk.

I would recommend making phone calls to several facilitators.  Ask them to justify the price.  Listen carefully to them when they bash others.  This should speak VOLUMES to you!
