I did for both of my surgeries...he is amazing.  I know a few people personally that have used him as well and feel the same.  I would go back in a heart beat! :)

Hi,
I have a surgery date of 3/8/10 with Dr. Almanza. Can any tell me if it is necessary to stay at the recovery house, or can I just stay at a hotel? I'm worried there wont be room for my travel partner at the recovery house. Any input would be great.

I just came home from my VSG with Dr. Almanza and my husband was with me the entire time.  He stayed in a bed next to me the night of my surgery and the 2nd night, it was a bit full at the clinic and Dr. Bentencourt paid for my husband and I to stay at the Marriot in Tijuana.  When we moved to the recovery house, my husband and I were in the same room (2 single beds) the whole time.  While not everyone brings a travel partner, your coordinator will inform them if you're bringing someone and they definitely will work to accomodate him/her.
I wouldn't worry about spending the extra money to stay in a hotel instead of the recovery house.  The recovery house was excellent!  All of the foods (broth/yogurt/gatorade) are available for you.  The cook will make "real" food for your travel partner (they are very conscientious that not everyone there is on broth-only) AND you'll have access to the nurses to change your bandages and empty your drain.  My husband and I both found it very comfortable.

Did you have to make seperate travel plans for your husband?

The only thing "extra" I had to do for him was get his plane ticket when I got mine.  I told my coordinator that he would be coming with me and that was that.  They made sure there was enough room for him in any of the transportation vehicles and in the Clinic when we stay after surgery (even put us up in the Marriot one night so we could be in the same room!) and at the recovery house.

I am SO grateful and thankful that he came with me and that Dr. Betancourt's staff and Dr. Almanza's team welcomed him as much as they welcomed me!

I just did!  I think I'll post my blog from my experience on here (in a seperate post)---it's really long---but I think it would be useful to people considering him or preparing to go.  I had a great experience :)
