Choosing your own date?

I'm in a demanding masters program that completes an entire course every four weeks.  It's a cohort program where a group of 15 students attend each class together for the duration of the program.  Luckily, I had already completed a few of the classes and so I get a month off every now and then.

Such is the case in May.  I'll have 4 weeks off before the next class.  I'd like to schedule my surgery for the first of those 4 weeks.  What are the odds that I'll be able to choose my own date?  Did you have input when it came to your scheduling?

Thanks!

Are you planning on going to Mexico?  I was able to pick my own date and that was about 2 months in advance.

Good luck!

Yep, I want to have my surgery done with Dr. Rumbaut.  It's really encouraging to know that I might be able to choose my date.  The class schedule isn't flexible at all.  We are all expected to graduate together and there are no other offerings for the classes we need to take.

Thanks so much for the information!

Since it's so far in advance...(the date you are wanting) I don't see any problem for you to get the date you need...I set my own date, and it was two months in advance...

GO FOR IT....AND THE BEST TO YOU....!!!!!

Thank you, Cyndy!  I'm so excited!

You know, now that I've decided to self pay, I realize that most of the stress involved with deciding to seek surgery is really in dealing with the insurance company.  When you weigh 350 pounds, it seems ridiculous to have to prove to a panel of people that you need to lose weight.  Without the insurance company meddling, this feels more like a decision between me and my doctor... as it should be.

I know, off topic, but I had to get it written down before I forgot it.

I think if you call now,you should be able to schedule any date you want in May. i scheduled my Feb 2010 date in July 2009 without any problem, and I will be the first surgery of the day.
I agree, after I got off the insurance merry-go-round,planning my surgery has been pleasant. Good luck!

How can you find out if you'll be the first surgery of the day?  I asked the coordinator and she was not sure.

I was thinking I should be first on the schedule by virtue of scheduling 6 months in advance. When I asked my coordinator said yes,I was. Since your surgery is coming up pretty soon they may have some other folks considering that date. Maybe it is first paid deposit gets first slot of the dat? I don't know for sure.
