Checking to see if people can provide feedback on pre-op, surgery, post op and follow up-- and cost of package for these two surgeons and their clinics?

Do either of these clinics use outdated bands?

I DON'T THINK THE NEW,LARGER BANDS ARE AVAILABLE IN MEXICO.

I'm an ortiz patient. years ago, both docs charged around 8000 and 100 for fluoro fills,

i think the prices are reduced now that banding has become so popular.

i would like to shear what newbies' research shows. has anybody consulted several docs in mexico and have a cost comparison.

it's great to find a fill provider in your hometown first and then start talking with the docs.

good luck!
Cheers,
Angel

Of the two doctors you list Ortiz is very good.

Band makers will not sell the newer bands to anyone in Mexico.  It's all good, Canadian doctors are going back to the smaller bands because weight loss is so much faster and they aren't having the problem of people not getting any restriction with the mega bands.

With that said, I'd be looking at a sleeve.  I could never suggest a band to anyone that is self pay.  It is VERY expensive for after care, reoperations, etc.  Sleeves... better weight loss, faster weight loss, and much safer long term than banding.  No aftercare, no maintenance, none of it.

I cannot recommend Dr. Kuri. I had my lapband surgery there about 6 months ago. After several weeks I still was in a lot of pain. I called Dr. Kuri's office. The receptionist told me it was "just gas". After a month, I called again and asked to make an appointment to see Dr. Kuri. I was told the only way to see a doctor was to get into the fill line. So, I dragged myself to TJ and was told my problem was "nothing" by the doctor on duty. I never got to speak with or see Dr. Kuri. Afterward, I went upstairs to his office to leave a message for him to please call me, but I never received a call from him.  A few weeks ago I needed a fill and went to Dr. Kuri's facility after pricing fills close to where I live. When I went in, I said I was nervous and could the doctor on duty (not Dr. Kuri) tell me what he was doing as he went along? To my surprise, he told me I had to call the 800 number if I had any questions.   I thought he misunderstood, but after a few more rude remarks by him, I was too upset to have the fill. There was no one else in the waiting room after me   It then took me another 45 minutes of arguing to get my money back. I again went upstairs and reported this to Jomi, who is familiar with both situations, and then left a message with the receptionist for Dr. Kuri to call me. That was a few months ago. I am still waiting for his callback.  There is no excuse for this. I wish I went somewhere else to have my surgery. The surgery went fine, but the aftercare and follow-up support is seriously lacking. I'm sure some people had a positive experience, but for me it wasn't very good. If you are considering lapband surgery, talk to current patients about their experiences AFTER the surgery. At Dr. Kuri's office there are "facilitators" who are really sales people who are also supposed to help after the surgery. I spoke with several, and found them to be quite pushy before the surgery. One spoke Spanish only, which was impossible.  Something is just not quite right there, and once there is a problem, they don't either know how to solve it, or don't want to solve a problem and become defensive and adversarial in the process.  This is only my opinion and experience. I wish someone wrote something like this when I was researching clinics in Mexico. I hope this information helps someone who is on the fence about going to Dr. Kuri's clinic.

You should post a testimonial if you feel strong about this.

OK, but I thought that is what I just wrote.  What else do you think I should do?  Thanks for your help.  EasyGoingGal

If you go here:

Along the top of Dr. Kuri's photo there is a green strip.  On the right side of the green strip is an icon to post a testimonial.  It will go on Dr. K's profile.

Thanks so much.  I just left my testimonial on Dr. Kuri's page.  It waited until it posted, but it posted on the last page with testimonials from 2001.  The more recent ones are on the front page.  I'm not sure if I did something incorrectly, but at least it is there to hopefully help others.

I'd report it here, sounds like a glitch:
