Anyone familiar with Dr. Verboonen?
HI THERE:
When I was researching docs in 2004, he wasn't in the top recommendations in bandster circles.
i narrowed my research to kuri and ortiz, both in tijuana and found lots of satisfied patients.

I'd prefer someone who works out of an actual hospital with an ICU,
Someone who is FACS (see facs.org),
Someone who is board certified in surgery.
Please see my profile on how to research a Mexican surgeon.

Thanks!Keep in mind also that folks on all of the boards sometimes have their own agenda. Please research both on and off the OH board. Please do not accept the "facts" that folks give you at face value. If folks starting quoting "facts" or "stats" and cannot give you a verifiable souce for the information take that in to consideration. When folks start saying horrible things about a surgeon and cannot back up what they are saying that should be a red flag as well.
Reemmber some of the surgeons have been advertising on OH langer than others and some do not advertise here at all. The ones that advertise most heavily and for longer tend to get used more, therefor you see more folks using them so then they get used more etc. This does not mean there are not other experienced, skilled, wonderful surgeon out there. I am not saying that they ones that do get used are not good surgeons I am simply saying they are not the ONLY options.
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?
Hi. I am actually a patient of Dr. Verboonen's. I was banded on May 7th, 2009. I have to admit that I was a little scared about going to Mexico. But I went on the word of my sister who also was banded by Dr. V.
My entire experience was wonderful. Dr. V met me at the clinic door and ushered me right in. The whole entire staff were great. Dr. V pushed me into surgery himself with the help of some nurses. He was with me every step of the way. They answered any questions I might have had, and his staff have called me several times to check on me since I've been home. My sister had the same experience. They treated me like family, and I can't wait to go back and see them next summer, just to visit, show off my new body, and maybe get a fill.
Dr. V also offers something else other practices in Mexico do not offer. He has an American named Lana who was with me from picking me up from the air port, to picking me up from the hospital and taking me home with her to her guest house. There she pampered me, and saw to my every comfort as well as my friend who went with me. She took us sight seeing and cooked for us. It really helped having an American with me, since I have no idea how to speak one single word of spanish. She is also a vetern bander, so she knew first hand about everything I was going through.
I have to say this about the hospital. I am a nurse in the states, and so I am very particular about the care that I receive. I critique every aspect of it. Let me say, that I have never had the great experience in the states with health care, that I received in Mexico at Dr. V's hospital. The nursing staff literally ran to your room if you used the call light, and were peaking in asking you if you were okay if they hadn't been summoned in a fair amount of time.
I can't tell you what to do, or what your own personal experience will be. I can tell you with 100% sincerity that if I had to do it all over again, I would do it in a heart beat. I am also not affiliated with his clinic in anyway other than being a former patient. Good luck on your journey, its a ride that is well worth taking.
