Made the choice now worried about the travel!

I've emailed my coordinator and given her a date.  Now I'm reading everything I can find out about Mexicali... and I'm getting scared.  Though most articles about the violence in Mexico don't specifically include Mexicali I am wondering how it is getting there.  Do they take you across California and then down through calexico or do you cross in Tijuana?  I was just reading something about hijackers taking over buses on the toll roads.  A little reassurance would be nice.  Thanks!

Well, I was in Mexicali for my surgery from June 4 - 8 and I had no problems.  I saw nothing anywhere that I was that would indicate to me I should have been concerned.

I had my surgery in May in TJ. I never had any problems, went shopping the day after and nothing ever made me nervous. We crossed in TJ.

Hello, I just had my VSG on July 8th in Juarez Mexico and never had any problems at all which so ever. You get picked up from the airport and driven straight to the hospital and you dont leave hospital until the day you go home back to the airport. **** I never had any problems crossing at the border but on the way home it does take longer to cross of corse due to security. It will be fine. I never saw any violence while traveling, dont be alarmed when close to the border you will see federal agents dressed in all black and also soldiers there for everyone's protection. Stop listening to the news and go by what you hear on this board because its the new's job to blow stuff out of proportion, the want more viewers and the want your attention thats how they make money by their viewers. Hope this Helps Sincerely Dawn

Thanks Dawn... I've really gotten over this since I posted but it's always nice to hear someone else had a good experience!  Keep us posted on your progress.

There is nothing to worry about. I had my lap band last week with Dr. Aceves. I live 5 mins. from Calexico and go to Mexicali frequently. Mexicali is like any other big city. Violence is usually in the poor neighborhoods of the city. There is no need for you to go there. The hospital is in one of the safest areas of the city. In addition, the hospital has good security. You cross through Calexico. On the way back you might encounter a long wait in line to cross back. It is very HOT here, so me prepare for it. Best of wishes to you. Vicky
