Hi Everyone,
Thought I'd drop in and say hello and share a few details about my experience . . .
My travel down to Monterrey went very smooth and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. I had been down there previously with a friend who had lap band surgery, so I pretty much knew what to expect, but I was still amazed at the first class service I was given from the time I arrived until the time I left. My surgery went really well, my surgeon was fantastic, the hospital was great (new and gorgeous) and my coordinator from my surgeons US office even called me at the hospital the day after surgery and again at the hotel to see how I was doing. I overslept the day I was supposed to go home and missed my flight. I wasn't quite sure what to do about rescheduling my pre-paid transportation to the airport etc... so I called her in the US and she got right to helping me. I ended up staying another night b/c the flights were booked on Continental, but my coordinator even called the hotel to make sure I got their office discount for the extra night. Anyway. . .service over and above, ya know???
Yes, the flu Pandemic was happenig while I was there, but I'm just not the type to get all panicked about things like that. Everyone in Monterrey was taking precautions and b/c it is the healthcare capital of Mexico, I felt pretty safe from all the "hooopla." In my opinion, this whole thing has been blown out of proportion, but who am I to judge? If I needed to go back tomorrow to see my surgeon, I wouldn't hesitate.
I've felt GREAT since being home and haven't had any problems except a little bit a nausea when I drank my protien shake too fast (at least I think that's what caused it), and I've been a little tired which is obviously expected. I have not weighed myself since being home b/c I promised myself I would only weigh every two weeks, but at my last post op appointment in Monterrey, I'd lost 14 pounds. I know I've lost quite a few more pounds since b/c I'm already down another size The best thing though is that I am feeling so much better since not stuffing my face all day and getting all the sugar and carbs out of my system has given me so much more enerygy! It's strange, but sometimes at night I'll wake up and it seems like I can feel my metabolism racing. . .it's a neat feeling.
Healthwise, I've already had a great NSV which is my blood sugar has been in normal range for the past week and my endochrinologist has already cut my Type 2 diabetes meds in half. She expects that I'll be off of them completely within a month! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!
I'll see Dr H. for my 2 eek post op this Friday. He has an office in Nuevo Laredo which is just across the bridge from me in Laredo, so that's pretty convenient. I'll post more after I see him and get weighed. For the first time in my life, I can't wait to get on that scale. Pardon the pun . . .LOL!!!
If anyone who is thinking about having this surgery has any questions, feel free to e-mail me. I'm no expert, but will be happy to share my experience and be a sleeve buddy!
OK, gotta get back to work!
Take care,
Dusty
