Hi Obesity Help Members!   Well don't worry about coming to Mexico.  We really have very nice hospitals here. I´m from Monterrey Mexico, and let me tell you that  I can compare it to any hospital in the US and I would say our hospitals are either the same or nicer than any there.    You don't have to worry, there are ISO certified hospitals, as well as Joint Commission International accredited, which means our cleanliness and quality standards are up to date or our certification can be pulled away from us.  I work at a mexican Hospital, and I am very proud of those certifications, because actually we are have both of them.    I understand your concerns but don't worry about those.  We are here to cater to Americans and Canadians and we do our best to make sure everyone is satisfied with their experience here.      As far as complications, you don't have to worry about those so much.  The complication rate is very very low with my surgeon. There is nothing really drastic that could happen that would make you say OH MY GOSH I have to go back to Mexico.  Even though you are welcome to come down to Mexico for your aftercare, if you chose to have it done in your home town that is perfectly fine as well.  The Gastric Lap Band surgery is a great surgery.  The patient heal really fast, there are no side effects.  The patients actually lose, even if they don't go on a diet.  It is just amazing to watch people change their lives with this surgery and I see it every day.   About coming to Mexico, you must have your passport to fly here into Monterrey.    For patients who have serious health conditions such diabetes and  hypertension, bariatric surgery will help out tremendously , I have so many patients that come off of their high blood pressure medicine, and even control their diabetes and most of the time it even goes away.  So you have a lot to look forward too.  A new and healthy life and we can help you do it.   Let me know if you have any specific questions, and I will wait on you to call me or email me here via private message.  Please feel free to call me any time.  I am here for you, and I will help you every step of the way.   Have a great weekend!   Karina

Hi Kathemil!

No, I´m with Dr. Javier de la Garza, he actually has a banner in this website, and OCA Hospital (my hospital)  has one of their own  website: Lite n Free, and, Kathe, you won´t let me lie, you already been here in Monterrey, as a patient, so you´ve  been part of this experience, we really have great surgeons and hospitals, by the way I also know other great surgeons from Monterrey, as well as cosmetic surgeons, I don´t know Dr Zapata, but I´m sure he´s as well experienced as the ones I know, and I just want to tell everyone who´s here looking for advice or referrals that, Mexico, and more specifically Monterrey, is a smart decision to choose when you decide to get bariatric or cosmetic surgery. Believe me, you won´t regret!

I am planning surgery in May.  I am a little nervous about Mexico.  I am a nurse and all of my friends are nurses so they tell me all these bad things are going to happen to me.  I am looking at Dr Zapata.  Who can tell me anything about him??

You will be pleasantly surprised by the medical care you will receive from Dr. Zapata and the hospital staff. The care I received was beyond excellent and better than any care me or anyone in family has ever received in the USA. The only bad thing that will happen is it may help you to see how the medical care in US hospitals is severely lacking. I am in no way saying that the nursing staff members in US hospitals are bad people. The care they are able to give is lacking because of the high nurse to patient ratios and poor quality control over care that is given. Monterrey was a very clean and safe city.
